Lu Shiman, a modern office worker, transmigrates into a historical novel as the doomed female supporting character in the spring of 1970. In the original story, the Lu family, once wealthy and influential, declines after the death of the benevolent patriarch Lu Hansheng. The protagonist of the novel, Li Weimian, is the daughter of Li Shichuan and his mistress Xiang Hongmei, who infiltrate the Lu household under the guise of housekeepers. Li Shichuan steals the family fortune and flees to Hong Kong, using Lu Shiman as a blood bag to fund his rise. Lu Shiman is subsequently sent to the northwest for labor reform and dies in the Gobi Desert within a month, while Li Weimian marries into high society and becomes a successful entrepreneur.
Upon transmigrating, Lu Shiman realizes she is in the body of the spoiled, arrogant young miss who is destined for a tragic fate. Refusing to accept this outcome, she decides to reclaim her family’s assets and send the treacherous Li family to their deserved punishment. She discovers that she retains her secret space ability from her previous life, though most of her stored supplies have vanished. Her first priority is to secure the remaining gold bars and jewelry hidden by her grandfather before Li Shichuan can access them. She also plans to expose Li Shichuan’s scheme to flee to Hong Kong with his illicit family.
Lu Shiman begins by confronting Li Weimian, who attempts to manipulate her with false tears. Instead of falling for the act, Lu Shiman coldly dismisses her and demands money for a piano and medical treatment for Wu Hongfei, a loyal servant from her childhood who now lives in poverty. She uses the money to hire Wu Hongfei to replace the Lu family’s valuable antique furniture with worn-out second-hand pieces, creating a pretext to search the house thoroughly. During this process, she empties the secret vault containing gold bars, jewelry, and property deeds, storing them in her space. She also retrieves the household registration books of Li Shichuan, Xiang Hongmei, and Li Weimian.
With the documents in hand, Lu Shiman visits the Educated Youth Office and registers Li Shichuan and his companions for labor reform in the harsh conditions of Xin Province, specifically targeting the Red Star Farm. She frames their departure as a voluntary act of patriotism while secretly ensuring they are sent away on the same day Li Shichuan had planned to flee to Hong Kong. To protect herself from the impending political turmoil, she accepts a proposal from Song Zhibai, a former servant of the Lu family who has risen to the rank of battalion commander. Song Zhibai offers a fake marriage to allow her to accompany him to Qiong Island, sparing her from the fate of being sent down. Lu Shiman agrees, viewing it as a pragmatic arrangement for survival.
Lu Shiman then orchestrates a series of conflicts within the Lu household to further destabilize Li Shichuan and his family. She frames Xiang Hongmei and Li Weimian for the theft of the gold by planting evidence in their rooms, causing Li Shichuan to suspect them of betrayal. This drives a wedge between the father and his illegitimate family, leading to internal strife and paranoia. Lu Shiman continues to extract money from Li Shichuan under various pretexts, draining his remaining resources while maintaining her facade of a reckless, spendthrift daughter.
As the story progresses, Lu Shiman systematically dismantles the Li family’s plans. She ensures that Li Shichuan loses his hidden wealth and faces the consequences of his greed, while Li Weimian’s attempts to maintain her heroic image are thwarted by Lu Shiman’s sharp interventions. The narrative follows Lu Shiman’s strategic maneuvers as she prepares to leave Zhe City with Song Zhibai, leaving the treacherous relatives to face their grim fate in the northwest. Her actions reflect a calculated effort to rewrite her destiny, turning the tables on those who sought to exploit and destroy her.
