Luo Ranran is a five-hundred-year-old Ginseng Sprite residing in the Heavenly Realm, known for her insatiable love of gossip and her companion, the Gua Gua System. Her master, Lord Lao, weary of her constant chatter, devises a solution by kicking her into the mortal realm. He provides her with a Mustard Seed Space containing elixirs, talismans, and artifacts, instructing her to perform good deeds so she may eventually cultivate a human form. Luo Ranran is reincarnated as the unborn child of Qingyang Princess, Luo Shihan, a gentle and elegant royal figure in the Tianqi Kingdom who is currently pregnant and deeply favored by the Emperor and Empress Dowager.
Upon entering the princess’s womb, Luo Ranran immediately detects that the amniotic fluid is filled with a slow-acting, colorless poison. Through her innate sensitivity as a spirit, she communicates with her mother, warning Qingyang Princess not to consume poisoned citrus fruits delivered by the princess’s consort, An Dongzhang. Luo Ranran reveals that An Dongzhang is colluding with his wet nurse, Li Momo, and his cousin, Li Xiangxiang, to murder both mother and child. Their plan involves substituting their own illegitimate daughter for the princess’s baby and seizing the princess’s wealth and status. Luo Ranran identifies the setting as the world of a novel she once read, where the Tianqi imperial family meets tragic ends due to their naivety and the schemes of villains.
Qingyang Princess, initially shocked, gains the ability to hear her daughter’s inner thoughts, a power also shared by the Crown Prince, Luo Chenxuan, who visits to check on his aunt. Upon learning of the poisoning and the conspiracy, Qingyang Princess shifts from her passive demeanor to a ruthless strategist. She exposes An Dongzhang’s infidelity and his plot, forcing him to confront the evidence. The Crown Prince, who is destined to die young in the original story, learns from Luo Ranran that his fate can be altered. United by the baby’s revelations, the aunt and nephew resolve to protect the child and change the tragic outcomes foretold in the novel.
Qingyang Princess executes a series of retaliatory measures. She has An Dongzhang’s illicit organ removed and prepared into a tonic soup, which is then sent to his father, the Duke of Anguo, under the pretense of a filial gift. The Duke, unaware of the contents, consumes the soup, suffering severe consequences that weaken the Anguo Duke’s Mansion. Meanwhile, Luo Ranran uses her knowledge of future events to guide her family, warning them of betrayals and helping them secure loyal allies, such as the Shadow Guard leader, Shadow One, and the princess’s maids. The story follows the transformation of Qingyang Princess from a victim of circumstance to a powerful matriarch who actively dismantles the conspiracies against her, while Luo Ranran navigates her new life as a prophetic infant, gathering gossip and ensuring her family’s survival against the odds of fate.
