Medium Detective: Solving Cases Online [Hong Kong in the 90s]

Chu Ci, a seasoned police officer from the modern era, is betrayed and knocked unconscious by a trusted informant. Upon awakening, she finds herself in 1990s Hong Kong, inhabiting the body of a young woman with the same name. This original Chu Ci was a fraudulent spirit medium raised by her grandmother, known for her greed and poor character. Chu Ci quickly adapts, using her police instincts to subdue a gang member named Wang Qiang who had come to threaten the original owner for a failed divination. Through physical contact, she discovers she can see residual memories, a ability triggered by a mysterious "Medium Detective" system that binds to her. She uses this power to solve Wang Qiang’s problem, revealing that his gang’s second-in-command killed their boss and is hunting the boss’s wife and child. She directs Wang Qiang to rescue them, earning a system reward and completing her first mission.

Following this, Chu Ci faces the social consequences of the original body’s bad reputation. Her landlady and neighbors, fearing retaliation from the Azure Dragon Gang, evict her and her grandmother. With no money and nowhere to go, Chu Ci searches for housing in Kwun Tong District. She encounters He Lihua, whose husband Zhou Jiacheng has been arrested as a suspect in the notorious "Five-Faced Corpse" serial murder case. Chu Ci uses her ability to see memories to learn that Zhou Jiacheng was merely visiting his dying ex-wife at the time of the murder and was hiding this to avoid his wife’s anger. She reveals this truth to He Lihua, who rushes to the police station to clear her husband’s name. Chu Ci successfully rents the apartment He Lihua was trying to vacate, which is known as a haunted house due to a previous double death. The previous tenants were a mistress and her legal wife, who killed each other in a violent dispute. The police ruled it a homicide-suicide, but Chu Ci senses something is wrong. Using a system-rewarded incense, she communicates with the ghosts of both women in the apartment’s bathroom. The spirits reveal that they were both murdered by their shared husband, Chen Xingping, who drugged them to collect insurance money. The legal wife, Chen Xinxin’s mother, had discovered the plot but was killed before she could protect her daughter. The mistress was also drugged and killed. Chu Ci tracks down Chen Xinxin, the daughter, who is currently being bullied at school for her mother’s perceived crimes. Chu Ci intervenes, rescuing Chen Xinxin from her father and the thugs. Chen Xinxin finds the evidence her mother hid, which proves her father murdered her mother for insurance money. The police arrest Chen Xingping, exposing his serial killings and fraud. Chen Xinxin’s tragic backstory is revealed: she was abused, sold, and nearly killed by her father before Chu Ci’s intervention saved her. The case closes, but Chu Ci remains in this dangerous era, bound to the system and entangled in the underworld of 1990s Hong Kong, with new mysteries and threats looming on the horizon.
