Cheng Li, a veteran survivor of a post-apocalyptic world, wakes up in a futuristic medical pod on Alpha Star, an interstellar planet. She has transmigrated into the body of an eighteen-year-old girl with the same name, who lost her right arm in a battle against insectoid aliens during a military academy exam. The original host was an illegitimate daughter of the Cheng family, abandoned by her relatives after the injury. Cheng Li discovers she is in a society divided into ordinary humans, Sentinels with powerful mental abilities, and Guides who can soothe Sentinels. Lacking funds for a mechanical arm or independent living, she is summoned by her father to return home. There, she learns her family has arranged a marriage between her and Yuan Mu, the eldest son of the wealthy Yuan family. Yuan Mu is an SS-rank Sentinel and former top student who lost both his legs in the same war. The marriage is a convenient arrangement for both families: the Chengs get rid of a burden, and the Yuans secure a partner for their crippled heir. Cheng Li agrees primarily because Yuan Mu’s family is gifting them a mining planet, which she hopes will help restore her own dormant crystal core ability.
The engagement banquet is disrupted by Yuan Mu’s former rivals, who mock his disability and attack him with mental power. Cheng Li intervenes, throwing a fork that unexpectedly pierces an attacker’s chest, revealing latent physical prowess. Shortly after, a giant insectoid creature attacks the group while they are traveling. During the battle, Cheng Li’s abilities awaken fully, allowing her to manipulate metal and dismantle the beast from the inside, saving her companions. She remains unconscious for two days, during which Yuan Mu pays her medical bills anonymously. Upon waking, she learns they are to be married immediately. The wedding proceeds quickly, merging their assets and granting Cheng Li ownership of half of Yuan Mu’s wealth, including the mining planet. She cuts ties with her abusive father, securing her independence from the Cheng family.
Cheng Li and Yuan Mu move into the Yuan family estate, where they face hostility from Yuan Mu’s stepmother, who wishes to exile them. They are soon assigned to live on the mining planet, a remote and less desirable location. Before departing, they encounter Lan Weiying, a former admirer of Yuan Mu who now mocks his condition. Cheng Li defends him, and the couple leaves for the starport. During the space voyage, their private ship is hijacked by star pirates who are kidnapping Sentinels and Guides to mine Blue Keystone, a rare mineral. The pirates separate the passengers, targeting Yuan Mu due to his Sentinel rank. Cheng Li catches Yuan Mu when he is thrown from his wheelchair, an act that begins to break down his emotional barriers. She uses her ability to enter a mental space, soothing his pain and allowing him to sleep peacefully for the first time since his injury. The story ends with the couple facing the dangers of pirate captivity, their relationship shifting from a transactional arrangement to one of mutual reliance and protection.
