Shen Mi is a recent graduate from a prestigious university who has endured a string of professional and personal misfortunes. After being harassed by her boss and subsequently berated by his wife, she faces repeated unemployment and financial instability. Her only consistent refuge is an online wuxia game, where she has spent three years under the protection of a powerful, anonymous mentor known as "Very Mysterious." This mentor, who possesses top-tier equipment and immense wealth within the game, occasionally offers Shen Mi practical advice, including helping her secure an interview at Ruixing Bank despite a fabricated rumor that the CEO refuses to hire female secretaries.

Shen Mi discovers the interview was a scam designed to block her for a relative, but her mentor correctly identifies the deception. Armed with this knowledge, she confronts the hiring manager, demands accountability, and successfully reschedules her interview. During the process, she meets Wang Bo, the local CEO of Ruixing Bank, who hires her on the spot due to an urgent need for staff following a major corporate restructuring. When Shen Mi interprets his gaze as admiration, he counters with logic that suggests she is the one interested in him, leaving her flustered. The story concludes with Shen Mi navigating this complex dynamic, balancing her professional duties with the growing, unacknowledged tension between her and her boss, who is also her long-time virtual protector.
