Song Xiaoyu, a former special operations soldier from a post-apocalyptic future, transmigrates into the body of a fifteen-year-old girl known as the fool of Tianshui Village. Upon waking inside a vermilion coffin, she discovers her greedy grandmother, Old Madam Wu, and her uncles are forcing her into a ghost marriage with a deceased Liu family son to pay off a fabricated debt and fund her third uncle's imperial examinations. Instead of submitting, Song Xiaoyu uses her combat skills to incapacitate the old woman and exposes the family's exploitation of her crippled father, Song Beichen, who had been hunting to support the entire household while his brothers lived in idleness.
The confrontation leads to Song Beichen demanding a formal separation from the main family. Despite receiving nothing but three old quilts and patched clothes, the first branch moves into a dilapidated thatched hut on the back hill. Song Xiaoyu utilizes a medical space that traveled with her, containing spiritual water and advanced supplies, to heal her father's shattered legs and treat her mother's internal injuries. She also discovers a treasure map within the space that reveals the locations of wildlife and medicinal herbs.
To secure their survival, Song Xiaoyu ventures into the dangerous mountains with her brothers. Guided by the map, she locates an injured black bear in a cave. Using an iron bow and an anesthetic syringe from her space, she subdues and kills the beast, securing a fortune in fur, meat, and medicinal parts. Her display of strength and intelligence shocks the villagers, who had previously mocked her. She gifts a portion of the bear meat to Wang Daquan, the village chief's son, to secure his family's goodwill and assistance in transporting the carcass.
The success draws the envy of the second and third branches. Song Beishan and Song Beihai attempt to intercept the family on their way to the county seat to sell the bear, but Song Xiaoyu rebuffs their greed with sharp wit and threats of violence. Undeterred, Song Beishan plots to force the ghost marriage by approaching Squire Liu directly, intending to substitute another girl after the family sells the bear. Meanwhile, Song Xiaoyu begins to establish her family's independence, using her medical knowledge and hunting skills to build a new life far removed from the parasitic relatives who once sought to sell her.
