Li Xian, a young man whose parents died under suspicious circumstances attributed to a mysterious car accident, finds himself in a bathroom with a fatal neck wound, having attempted suicide. As he loses consciousness, he hears a chilling folk song chanting about a wedding and death. He awakens inside a bridal sedan, forced into the role of a female bride named Li Xiaojun in a horror game instance called Stone River Village. A system interface reveals he is one of seven players in this F-difficulty mystery role-playing scenario. His personal task is to enter the bridal chamber and drink wedding wine within ten minutes, with a critical warning that villagers must not discover the bride is a man, or he will face life-threatening danger. The instance appears to be connected to his parents' true deaths, suggesting they were also players trapped in similar games.
Inside the bridal chamber, Li Xian encounters a mysterious, handsome man named Ji Xie, who exudes a dangerous aura and does not fit the profile of a typical village NPC. Li Xian’s system grants him a unique skill called "Marry on the Spot," allowing him to bind a marriage relationship with a non-instance character, sharing their health and preventing mutual harm. Desperate due to his critically low health of 25 points, Li Xian manipulates the situation. After drinking the suspicious wedding wine, he escapes the locked room by finding a hidden passage under the bed, only to be chased by a vengeful ghost woman in red. He flees into the village, where he discovers that the rain is lethal, dissolving villagers upon contact. Ji Xie reappears and neutralizes the rain's effect on Li Xian, revealing he is immune to the village's supernatural hazards.
Li Xian realizes he cannot continue playing the role of the bride, as his makeup has been washed away and his gender exposed. He strategically strips off the wedding dress and wig, presenting himself as a male outsider named Li Xian when confronted by the Village Chief. This bold move allows him to avoid the fate of the bride, who is destined to die. The Village Chief, holding a blood-stained axe, questions the players but ultimately allows Li Xian to stay, provided they help find the runaway bride. Li Xian joins the other six players, including veterans Zhao Fengyi and Qian Xin, and learns that the instance has mutated into a "True or Die" scenario, where the clearance condition has shifted to putting the bride's body into a coffin. The players are given rooms in the Village Chief's mansion, but the atmosphere is tense and lethal.
That night, the Village Chief murders one of the players, Wang Ping, dragging the body to the river where something in the water devours it. Li Xian follows and disposes of his wedding attire in the river, triggering a mental contamination event that nearly drives him mad. He survives by falling into a square well, which seems to offer temporary respite. The next morning, the remaining players discover Wang Ping's mutilated remains and learn the village's strict rules: only well water is drinkable, and they must not go out in the rain. Li Xian shares his experience with the Village Chief, gaining a slight advantage over the others. As the group heads to fetch water, they face new threats, including a stuck well handle, indicating that the instance continues to evolve with deadly traps. Li Xian's health value has also changed to question marks, suggesting his marriage bond with Ji Xie has granted him unknown protections or attributes, setting the stage for a dangerous struggle for survival in the cursed village.
