Despite her professional competence, she faces hostility from colleagues like Yang Haiyi, who resent her efficiency and refusal to participate in unpaid overtime. Her personal history is marked by emotional isolation; as an orphan adopted by the Jiang family, she was sidelined in favor of their biological daughter, Jiang Qiqi. This upbringing fostered a detached, self-reliant personality that serves her well when the world abruptly changes. While commuting to work on an electric scooter, Su Xiao is caught in an inexplicable Category 20 hurricane that contradicts all weather forecasts. A global broadcast announces the launch of an Apocalypse Game, revealing that thirty million safehouses have appeared worldwide for ten billion survivors. The announcement states that only those who bind to a safehouse can survive the impending disaster.

Recognizing the lethal reality of the situation, Su Xiao observes the chaotic scramble for survival. She notices that safehouses are marked by glowing doorknobs of varying colors, which likely indicate their tier and quality. While others fight over visible gold and silver doorknobs, Su Xiao identifies a hidden bronze doorknob on a manhole cover in the middle of a dangerous, wind-battered street. Using her knowledge of wind dynamics, she navigates the gale to reach the manhole, narrowly avoiding being crushed by a bus and outmaneuvering aggressive survivors. She enters the safehouse, a ten-square-meter underground cellar, just as the hurricane fully intensifies. Inside, she learns from the system assistant, Xiao Mo, that she must remain for one hour to bind the safehouse. During this time, she discovers the cellar is mobile but requires oxygen, and she begins scavenging a nearby supermarket underground warehouse for supplies before the disaster peaks.

After the hurricane subsides, Su Xiao continues to explore the new rules of the Apocalypse Game. She discovers that treasure chests appear in different colors, each containing specific types of resources: white for food, red for weapons, and purple for blueprints. By being the first to open a white chest, she triggers a hidden Easter egg that doubles her rewards from white chests. She also finds a red axe and learns that destroying marked vehicles yields purple chests containing crafting blueprints. Her strategic mind leads her to trade resources with other survivors, notably forming a partnership with a user named Turtle Hermit, who possesses a mobile turtle safehouse and valuable information about game mechanics. In return for food, Turtle Hermit provides critical intel on weapon synthesis and safehouse types.

As the game progresses, Su Xiao encounters Doomsday Monsters, creatures summoned by interacting with certain environmental prompts. She witnesses a survivor being killed by a monster hidden within a willow tree, learning that not all game hints are beneficial. She also discovers black treasure chests, which contain crafting materials, and triggers another Easter egg by being the first to open one. This doubles her rewards from black chests, allowing her to accumulate the iron and wood needed to craft a Weapon Station. She binds two additional safehouses—a fishing boat and a Ferrari—granting her mobility options and triggering a special upgrade event. Su Xiao uses her accumulated resources to craft the Weapon Station and begins synthesizing higher-level weapons, preparing for the escalating dangers of the apocalypse.
