Gu Qing awakens in the body of a fictional character, realizing he is the impostor young master of the Gu family who cruelly bullies Chen Zhou, the true heir. In the original novel, Gu Qing is exposed, cast out, and dies destitute while Chen Zhou rises to power and exacts brutal revenge. Initially terrified, Gu Qing decides to alter his fate by preserving his privileged status. He recognizes that Chen Zhou, despite his subservient demeanor, harbors deep resentment and that their current dynamic is a fragile mask over impending doom.

Gu Qing attempts to rewrite the narrative by treating Chen Zhou with unexpected kindness. He invites Chen Zhou to celebrate his birthday, takes him on a luxurious trip, and provides him with expensive clothing. Gu Qing’s primary goal is to prevent Chen Zhou’s adoptive parents from revealing his true identity to the Gu family. He monitors Chen Zhou’s family closely, ensuring they do not encounter the Gu patriarch. However, his efforts are complicated by Su Yao, a classmate who harbors obsessive and twisted feelings for Gu Qing. Su Yao discovers Gu Qing’s secret identity and uses it as leverage to blackmail him.

The situation escalates when Su Yao drugs Gu Qing and attempts to assault him. Chen Zhou intervenes, rescuing Gu Qing from the trap. During the aftermath, Gu Qing, influenced by the drugs and his vulnerability, initiates an intimate encounter with Chen Zhou. This event shifts the power dynamic between them. Gu Qing, fearing exposure and revenge, attempts to flee the country to escape his tragic fate. He believes that running away will sever the ties that lead to his downfall in the original story.

Chen Zhou tracks Gu Qing down before he can leave. Instead of punishing him for the past bullying or revealing his identity, Chen Zhou reveals that he has already destroyed the evidence of his true lineage. He confesses that he has awakened to the fact that he is a character in a novel and has chosen to reject the original plot. Chen Zhou declares his love for Gu Qing, stating that he values their relationship more than his birthright or the revenge prescribed by the story.

Chen Zhou explains that his devotion is not based on the abuse he endured but on Gu Qing’s hidden kindness, such as sharing food when Gu Qing thought no one was watching. He asserts that he wants to remain Gu Qing’s “dog,” not out of submission, but as a chosen partner who will protect Gu Qing’s secret and ensure his continued happiness. Gu Qing, realizing that Chen Zhou is willing to sacrifice his own status to keep him safe, accepts the new arrangement. The story concludes with Chen Zhou managing Gu Qing’s life, ensuring he remains dependent on him, while secretly eliminating any threats to their fabricated reality.
