I Woke Up To Find Myself In An Apocalypse!

Shi Zuo An is a twenty-nine-year-old project manager who, after resigning from his job, spends a night drinking at a bar. He meets a stranger named Xia Ao, and the two return to a hotel room together. Shi Zuo An wakes up to violent pounding on his door, discovering that a zombie apocalypse has erupted in the city. The hallway is filled with aggressive, flesh-eating undead. Shi Zuo An and Xia Ao barricade the door with a sofa and deduce that the zombies are attracted to human scent. To escape, they cover themselves in shampoo and perfume to mask their odor. Xia Ao retrieves a fire axe from a stairwell hydrant, and the two fight their way down, killing a zombie in the stairwell before navigating the chaotic streets to reach Xia Ao’s car.

They escape to Shi Zuo An’s apartment, only to find the door broken and the interior ransacked by zombies. Unable to stay, Shi Zuo An agrees to move in with Xia Ao. As they retrieve Shi Zuo An’s belongings, they encounter zombies that display higher intelligence, such as hiding in wardrobes and climbing through windows. Xia Ao classifies these as high-level zombies, warning Shi Zuo An to treat all unknown threats with caution. They return to Xia Ao’s high-rise apartment, climbing eighteen flights of stairs due to a power outage. There, they are greeted by Song Zi Qiao, Xia Ao’s high school friend, who has been waiting in the stairwell for over twenty-four hours.

The group of three settles into Xia Ao’s apartment, rationing food and water while the city outside descends into chaos. Shi Zuo An falls ill with a high fever, forcing Xia Ao and Song Zi Qiao to seek medicine. They trade supplies with Jiang Si, Song Zi Qiao’s ex-girlfriend, who lives on the same floor. Jiang Si reveals that a predatory neighbor, Old Zhang, has been targeting her. That night, Jiang Si escapes Old Zhang’s attempted break-in and joins the group. The next morning, Shi Zuo An devises a plan to create a makeshift explosive using a fire extinguisher and a plastic bottle to scare Old Zhang into submission. The group executes the plan at dawn, successfully driving Old Zhang back into his apartment without causing a zombie-drawing explosion.

With the immediate human threat neutralized, the four survivors establish a fragile routine in the apartment. They face the ongoing challenges of the apocalypse, including dwindling resources, the threat of intelligent zombies, and the psychological strain of isolation. Shi Zuo An, once an isolated office worker, finds himself integrated into a small community with Xia Ao and Song Zi Qiao. The story follows their daily efforts to survive, secure food and water, and maintain their sanity as the world outside continues to collapse. The narrative highlights the shift from individual survival to collective cooperation, as the group relies on each other’s unique skills and knowledge to navigate the dangerous new reality.
