Xiang Wenshan is a twenty-seven-year-old middle school art teacher and comic book illustrator living in modern China. Despite having a stable job, a car, and a house, she faces intense pressure from her mother to marry. After enduring eighteen disastrous blind dates, she agrees to meet a university lecturer named Song Zhaohua, introduced by her aunt. The two connect immediately during their coffee date, sharing similar frustrations with family expectations. In a impulsive decision, they drive to the Civil Affairs Bureau and register their marriage the same day. Wenshan awakens in a mud-brick house in 1970, having transmigrated into the body of another woman named Xiang Wenshan.
