There are quite a few of this type lately. I have no idea which one is the original, but the speed other authors copy, paste, and paraphrased the concept is astounding. Personally I think this one is the best of the lot that I have the misfortune to read so far. The character is very vivid. While he has a plug-in, it doesn't make him the strongest and smartest, a fact that he acknowledges. The world is well crafted and complex with mysteries scattered like reefs in a foggy sea. The countdown of human population reminds me of the mounting number of victims of Covid 19.
