Gu Leizhou, a thirty-nine-year-old man who had risen from a life of poverty and crime to become a successful merchant, is stabbed to death by a robber on an airplane. Before dying, he hears whispers of a God of Wealth and a System, prompting him to eagerly accept an offer to bind with a Premium Life System. He awakens in the body of another Gu Leizhou, a twenty-something gambler and deadbeat who is being beaten by loan sharks. The original host had been manipulated by a mysterious man in a black suit into destroying the career of his younger brother, Gu Liao Chuan, a rising music star, by deleting his works and falsely accusing him of plagiarism. The original host’s life spiraled into ruin after he gambled away the money meant to pay off his debts, leading to a series of violent events where he murdered his parents and attempted to poison his entire village before taking his own life.
The new Gu Leizhou discovers he possesses two systems: the Premium Reclamation and Reformation System, which tasks him with reforming the original host’s soul by preventing him from harming others, and the Godly Tycoon Check-in System, which provides him with wealth and assets. Initially receiving a luxury sports car as a check-in reward, Gu Leizhou sells it to pay off his debts and secure some capital. He interacts with his landlady, who had previously viewed him with disdain, and manages to present a facade of stability. His former associate, Song Pengtao, a manipulative friend who had been draining Gu Leizhou’s money through gambling, attempts to lure him back into the cycle. Gu Leizhou outsmarts Song Pengtao by feigning illness and forcing him to pay for expensive medical checkups, thereby draining Song’s resources while avoiding the casino trap.
Gu Leizhou then visits his younger brother, Gu Liao Chuan, at his studio. Despite the original host’s history of exploitation, Gu Liao Chuan remains blindly devoted to his brother, offering him money and expressing a desire for them to live together. Gu Leizhou uses this opportunity to access Gu Liao Chuan’s computer, deleting the archived lyrics and compositions as originally demanded by the black-suited man, but records the act to ensure the task is completed without further damaging his brother’s reputation. He then refuses to move in with Gu Liao Chuan, choosing instead to maintain his independence while navigating his new life.
Song Pengtao, desperate to recover his losses and fulfill his obligations to the casino boss Lei Tian, continues to pressure Gu Leizhou. He drags Gu Leizhou to the gambling den, where Gu Leizhou pretends to be reluctant and uninterested in gambling. Song Pengtao forcibly takes Gu Leizhou’s phone and exchanges his remaining five thousand yuan for chips. The police, tipped off by an anonymous source with surveillance footage, raid the casino. During the raid, Gu Leizhou’s loud complaint about his lost money draws attention, but the footage clearly shows he was coerced. The landlady provides testimony corroborating that Song Pengtao had been coercing Gu Leizhou. Song Pengtao is arrested for luring others into gambling, while Gu Leizhou is released after being deemed a victim rather than a willing participant. The story concludes with Gu Leizhou free from his immediate debts and manipulative associates, beginning his journey to reform his life under the guidance of the System.
