Honest Person, But Delicate

Xue Ci, a fragile and pale young man, dies in a car accident and is offered a chance to earn life points by completing tasks in various worlds. He chooses the Honest Person System, assigned to System 11, and is sent to an ABO universe to play the role of a Beta from the countryside. The original plot dictates that this Beta, named Song Xue Ci, has an ancestral engagement agreement with the Gu family. He travels to the city to deliver the letter, secretly loves the Alpha protagonist Gu Xu, and ultimately fails in his pursuit due to his clumsy behavior and a skin-craving disorder, leading to his dropout and return to the countryside. Xue Ci, however, approaches the role with honesty and sincerity, unaware that his natural physique attracts unwanted attention from perverts.

Upon arriving at the Gu family villa, Xue Ci gets lost in the rain and encounters Gu Xu while sheltering a stray kitten. His gentle nature and polite demeanor leave a strange impression on the cold and proud Alpha. Gu Xu, who initially despises arranged marriages and finds Omegas troublesome, allows Xue Ci to stay at the villa for the night. The Gu family elders, led by Hu Shenglan, are warm and welcoming, having sought out the long-lost friend of the late family head. They agree to let Xue Ci stay and attend the prestigious Shengxuan Academy, despite Gu Xu’s initial resistance and misunderstanding that Xue Ci wrote the engagement letter himself to seduce him.

At the academy, Xue Ci navigates the complex social hierarchy of the noble school. He meets Gu Xu’s twin brother, Duan Xingyan, an Alpha with a damaged gland who lacks pheromones but possesses a scheming and teasing personality. Duan Xingyan quickly takes a liking to Xue Ci, cooking for him and engaging in ambiguous interactions that provoke Gu Xu’s jealousy. Gu Xu, though outwardly cold and dismissive, finds himself increasingly distracted by Xue Ci’s presence. He starts caring for the Beta in subtle ways, such as bringing him food, tutoring him with his elder brother Gu Ling, and transferring money to him, all while denying any special affection.

The core conflict arises from the misunderstanding of Xue Ci’s intentions and the growing tension between the brothers. Gu Xu interprets Xue Ci’s honesty and clinginess as manipulative tactics, yet he cannot stay away. Meanwhile, Xue Ci is tasked with completing various objectives, such as expressing admiration for Gu Xu and passing entrance exams, while maintaining his character as an honest, unassuming Beta. The presence of other Alphas, including the gentle but possessive Xie Yishu and the sunny Xin Yue, adds layers of rivalry and complexity to Xue Ci’s situation. Xue Ci’s lack of awareness regarding ABO dynamics and social cues leads to humorous and tense misunderstandings, particularly with Gu Xu’s protective instincts.

As the story progresses, the relationship between Xue Ci and Gu Xu shifts from cold indifference to a complicated dynamic filled with jealousy and unspoken care. Gu Xu becomes increasingly possessive, reacting negatively to Xue Ci’s interactions with his brothers and other suitors. Xue Ci, focused on his tasks and genuine in his actions, inadvertently deepens Gu Xu’s obsession. The narrative follows Xue Ci’s efforts to survive in this new world, balancing his duties as a system host with the emotional entanglements of the Gu family, while the hidden dangers of his attractive physique and the schemes of those around him begin to surface.
