Hell’s Handbook

So far, I've found this enjoyable, and I sincerely hope the translators continue their work. In my opinion, the writing is accessible, not clichéd, and doesn't offend, at least not to me. That's already a significant plus. However, the narrative has a dreamlike quality, which can be intriguing, but it might struggle to maintain sustained interest without a strong plot or character development. My curiosity lies in understanding the purpose of the "Hell's Handbook" and its acquisition by its current owners. Yet, the author might not delve deeper into these aspects, and perhaps they're content with the surreal journey. If that proves to be the case, I might disengage. Initially, I gave it three stars. Upon reconsidering the ratings of other novels, I realize my initial assessment might have been too harsh. Although I'm still unsure about the long-term potential, I genuinely appreciate and enjoy reading each chapter. Therefore, I'm adjusting my rating to four stars.

There's no need to read this book. The main character (MC) is portrayed in an extremely frustrating manner. Despite being initially presented as highly intelligent, he consistently fails to make明智的 decisions about his personal life and the risks involved. Moreover, he lacks assertiveness – putting himself and his team in danger just to appear virtuous. He even apologizes after making a logical choice if someone gets upset. It's baffling how the author conceived of such a weak character, and unfortunately, it ruins an otherwise fantastic story that I was enjoying. I've decided to stop reading at this point.

Initially, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality! However, as the story progresses and the main character gains immense strength from the abundant rewards earned by overcoming the book's challenges, my concern arises. At chapter 53, the protagonist is portrayed as powerful, on par with Captain America, as acknowledged in the narrative, and wealthy, although it's unclear if the currency is US dollars.

There have been instances where the main character displays his power, like when he defeated a wealthy kid to protect a coworker, but it hasn't been excessive and didn't bother me much. Yet, there were moments while reading that left me slightly uncomfortable, despite the engaging wit and intelligence displayed in overcoming obstacles.

One reason I initially gave it 5 stars was the protagonist's reliance on strategy rather than brute force. But as the story leans more towards a supernatural and horror genre with a rapidly escalating protagonist, maintaining balance becomes challenging. The rapid increase in strength might undermine the charm that initially drew me to this novel. I hope this won't be the case, but I'm worried it might lose its appeal.

In terms of translation, it's decent. Unfortunately, the novel has let me down. Although it started promisingly, I no longer find it worth my time. My advice is to avoid reading it, as you might share the same disappointment. I'm giving it a 1-star rating because it had considerable potential that was not fully realized.
