Song Si, a professional Go player in modern-day China, is murdered by her adopted sister after being brought back to her biological family, who favor the adopted daughter over her. Upon waking, she finds herself transmigrated into the body of a woman with the same name in a 1970s Chinese novel titled "Seventies: Cultivating the Virtuous Female Supporting Role." She is bound to a glitchy system named Da Huang, which tasks her with playing the role of a virtuous wife who sacrifices herself to help the novel’s male lead, Gu Chen, reunite with the fake daughter, Song Nian. Song Si, however, refuses to follow the script.
