Wen Ying finds herself trapped inside the body of a fictional novel, inhabiting the role of the vicious, jealous female supporting character. In the original story, this character schemes against the pure female lead, drugging both the male lead and the heroine to force romantic entanglements, only to suffer tragic consequences. Wen Ying, aware of the plot, initially views the script with ridicule, questioning why she would sabotage her own engagement to the male lead, Fu Tingchuan. However, her perspective shifts when she begins experiencing strange physical symptoms at a banquet, realizing she is being drugged just as the character in the book was. Fearing she will be forced into an irredeemable situation, she flees the main hall and stumbles into the arms of Gu Qingyu, a handsome doctor and Fu Tingchuan’s childhood friend.

Under the influence of the drug, Wen Ying initiates a sexual encounter with Gu Qingyu, viewing him as a convenient and attractive option to retaliate against Fu Tingchuan, who she suspects is already with the female lead, Lin Shiwei. The next morning, the reality of their situation sets in. A key turning point occurs when Wen Ying and Fu Tingchuan are seen together at a public banquet, posing as a harmonious couple to quell rumors about their engagement. Gu Qingyu observes them from a distance, his expression unreadable but his jealousy palpable. Meanwhile, Fu Tingchuan’s friend Yi Jie recalls seeing Gu Qingyu with a woman in a car, suspecting it might be Wen Ying, though he dismisses the idea due to her known hostility toward him. She no longer cares about his affairs with Lin Shiwei, choosing instead to focus on her own enjoyment and social status. This shift confuses Fu Tingchuan, who expected her to fight for his attention. Gu Qingyu, on the other hand, becomes more persistent, challenging Wen Ying’s superficial approach to relationships.
