Good Thing She’s a Sucker for Looks

Zang Ling is the twenty-six-year-old CEO of Tianhai Group, a company she rescued from bankruptcy six years ago. Known as the "Ice Queen" for her cold and intimidating public persona, she is privately eccentric, vain, and deeply devoted to her parents. Her only romantic requirement is that a partner must be exceptionally handsome and make her heart race, a standard she believes no one can meet. Her life changes when she discovers her mother has been fainting due to malnutrition from strict dieting. Yan Wenshu, however, is not who he appears to be. In his past life, he was betrayed by the novel’s male lead, Yuan Haolang, and the female lead, Han Lanmeng, leading to his ruin. Driven by revenge and a desire to escape his fate, Yan Wenshu pretends to be a timid, shy subordinate while secretly manipulating Zang Ling’s affections. He rejects her initial confession, claiming he is unworthy, but Zang Ling misreads his hesitation as shyness and redoubles her efforts.

Zang Ling’s pursuit is clumsy and enthusiastic. She researches dating advice online, stalks Yan Wenshu in the cafeteria, and creates excuses to interact with him. When Yuan Haolang, the arrogant son of a rival family, arrives at Tianhai Group demanding to see Zang Ling, he insults Yan Wenshu as a "pretty boy." To protect Yan Wenshu from further humiliation and to dismiss Yuan Haolang, Zang Ling publicly declares Yan Wenshu her boyfriend. Yan Wenshu accepts the role, recognizing it as a strategic advantage.

The two begin a fake relationship at work, with Zang Ling eagerly learning about Yan Wenshu’s preferences and Yan Wenshu maintaining his gentle, submissive facade. Zang Ling introduces him to her parents, who are suspicious of her sudden romantic interest. Meanwhile, Yan Wenshu’s system monitors Zang Ling’s growing feelings, unaware that Yan Wenshu’s primary motivation is not love but vengeance against Yuan Haolang and a desire to break free from the narrative plot that controlled his past life. The story sets the stage for a complex dynamic where Zang Ling’s genuine infatuation collides with Yan Wenshu’s calculated performance, all while the threat of Yuan Haolang looms in the background.
