Qin Feng, a world-renowned chef who had won the Olympic Culinary Competition and other top global culinary awards, dies in a car accident after his championship victory. He awakens in a parallel world, transmigrating into the body of a man with the same name. This new Qin Feng is a stay-at-home father in Jianghai City, estranged from his celebrity wife, Xu Fei, and raising a young daughter, Qin Nan. The original host had lost his career and social standing, becoming a dependent husband mocked by society. Despite the poor location and skepticism from locals, including the owner of the neighboring Yonghe Restaurant, Zhao Yonghe, Qin Feng’s cooking attracts his first customer, Qiao Lu, an office worker who is blown away by the flavor. Her enthusiasm leads to word-of-mouth promotion, and soon, Qin Feng’s restaurant gains a reputation for exceptional quality. He establishes a routine of introducing a new signature dish every Friday, drawing crowds and critics alike. His culinary prowess also catches the attention of Shen Yuanshan, an elderly connoisseur and owner of a high-end kitchenware store, who challenges Qin Feng to a taste test in exchange for a custom set of professional knives.

Qin Feng prepares Boiling Vegetable Soup, a dish of deceptive simplicity that showcases the pinnacle of Sichuan cuisine’s clear broth technique. Shen Yuanshan is moved to tears by the experience, recognizing the profound philosophy and skill behind the dish. He gifts Qin Feng the knife set, validating his status as a master chef. Meanwhile, Qin Feng’s personal life begins to shift. He reconnects with his daughter, Nan Nan, and attempts to repair his relationship with Xu Fei. However, obstacles arise in the form of Wang Qiang, a wealthy suitor courting Xu Fei, who looks down on Qin Feng as a failure. Qin Feng outsmarts Wang Qiang during a dinner encounter, displaying his refined knowledge of wine and earning a moment of surprise from his wife.

The central conflict escalates when Zhao Yonghe, threatened by Qin Feng’s rising popularity, steals the recipe for Kung Pao Chicken and claims it as his own creation, even bringing in media to support his false narrative. To settle the dispute, Zhao Yonghe challenges Qin Feng to a public cooking competition. Qin Feng accepts, confident in his abilities. The competition features two rounds: tofu and fish. In the first round, Qin Feng prepares Wensi Tofu, demonstrating impossible knife skills by slicing soft tofu into hair-thin threads. His technical mastery impresses the judges, securing a win for that round. In the second round, he prepares Squirrel Mandarin Fish, a dish famous for its visual presentation and the squeaking sound it makes when sauce is poured over the fried fish. The dish captivates the audience and judges, leading to a decisive victory for Qin Feng. Zhao Yonghe’s scheme is exposed, and Liu Ming, the chef Zhao Yonghe recruited for help, flees in shame.

Following the competition, Qin Feng’s restaurant becomes a local landmark. He continues to expand his menu, maintaining his commitment to quality over quantity. Qiao Lu, inspired by his cooking, quits her job to become his apprentice, eager to learn the art of cuisine under his guidance. Qin Feng also begins planning for breakfast service, intending to introduce a new item daily. Despite his professional success, he remains focused on his family, balancing his culinary ambitions with his role as a father and husband. The story concludes with Qin Feng establishing himself as a formidable force in the local culinary world, having transformed his life from obscurity to recognition while navigating the complexities of his new family dynamics.
