Summary

Lin Qiaozhi is a fifteen-year-old girl living in the residential compound of Hongqi Agricultural Machinery Factory during the early 1970s in Jiangcheng. And Lin Qiaozhi—brilliantly—immediately notices something is off: "This kind of eager flattery... she couldn't even remember how many years it had been since the last time." The author doesn't even need to spell it out. We already know from the flashback that this is the same kid who used to sweet-talk her into giving him toys, then refused to do his chores and let their mother blame HER. He's been running the same con since they were children, and he's only gotten more sophisticated about it. But here's what actually made me furious: he goes to their parents AFTER she refuses him. He doesn't just ask nicely once—he weaponizes the family. And the parents immediately fall for it. "Your brother told me you taught him really well."
