Fated to Be Alone Yet the Hard Luck Army Officer Insists on Marrying Me

Lin Yinyin, a survivor of a brutal apocalypse, transmigrates into the body of an eighteen-year-old girl in 1970s rural China. The original owner, known as a cursed jinx, died after being sold by her stepmother Lin Xiulan to a mentally disabled man named Wang Dagen. Meanwhile, Lin Yinyin uncovers more about her past. Wang Erhua reveals that Lin Yinyin has an older sister, Lin Huizhi, who left home years ago and now serves in the Hebei Provincial Military District. Lin Yinyin finds letters from her sister hidden in her parents' room, confirming the address. She also discovers she has an independent household registration, freeing her from her stepfather’s control. With her revenge complete and her future direction set, she prepares to leave the village to find her sister.

Before departing, Lin Yinyin encounters Li Jinye, a mysterious soldier investigating crimes in the area. He witnesses her cunning actions but chooses not to expose her, instead trading a valuable watch for some of the braised pork she cooked. Lin Yinyin also deals with tuberculosis patients detained in the village shed, tricking them into giving her saliva samples to spread the disease to her enemies, further ensuring her stepfamily’s downfall. She sets fires to destroy evidence and frame others, showcasing her ruthless pragmatism.

The story follows Lin Yinyin as she navigates the strict social controls of the 1970s commune system. She outsmarts the corrupt brigade leader, who is biased toward her stepmother, and avoids suspicion for the thefts and arson. As she packs her belongings and prepares to head north, she leaves behind a village in chaos: her stepbrother is injured and forced to marry a widow, her stepmother is disgraced, and her stepfather faces financial ruin. Lin Yinyin’s journey is one of survival and retribution, transforming from a oppressed orphan into a capable woman determined to reclaim her life and reunite with her family.
