Lin Qingtang, a wealthy modern woman, transmigrates into the body of a villainess in a 1980s novel after fainting during a childbirth simulator game. The original character, also named Lin Qingtang, was a cruel stepmother who abused her husband's two children, Jiang Xiaoyan and Tianbao, the orphans of martyrs. Driven by jealousy of the novel's heroine, the original Lin Qingtang had mistreated the children, sent their father's provisions to her natal family, and ultimately faced divorce and ruin. Upon awakening, Lin Qingtang finds herself in the middle of abusing the children and immediately stops, vowing to raise them with love and care.
The new Lin Qingtang discovers that He Chen, the children's father and a dedicated soldier, is unaware of her transformation. She begins to treat the children with genuine affection, providing them with proper nutrition, clothing, and education. Her kindness confuses Jiang Xiaoyan, who is initially wary but gradually warms to her. Meanwhile, Lin Qingtang discovers she has a spiritual villa with fresh water and modern amenities, which she uses to improve the children's living conditions.
Conflict arises when Bai Nianhe, a woman obsessed with He Chen, and Lu Jiaojiao, the novel's heroine, conspire to separate the children from Lin Qingtang. They recruit Li Pinghua, the children's biological mother who abandoned them, to falsely accuse Lin Qingtang of abuse. A public confrontation occurs at a supply cooperative, where Lin Qingtang calmly defends herself and exposes the conspiracy. The police arrive, and He Chen returns from the army, witnessing the events firsthand.
He Chen is surprised by Lin Qingtang's changed behavior and the children's evident happiness. Despite his initial distrust, he observes her genuine care for the children and begins to reconsider his stance. Lin Qingtang refuses to beg for his approval, maintaining her dignity and focusing on the children's well-being. She also confronts her exploitative natal family, who had been draining her resources, and sets boundaries to protect her new family.
As He Chen spends more time with Lin Qingtang and the children, he notices the positive changes in their health and demeanor. The children, once malnourished and fearful, are now thriving under her care. Lin Qingtang's determination to break free from her original fate drives her to navigate the complex social dynamics of the 1980s village, outsmarting those who seek to exploit her and the children. The story follows her journey as she builds a genuine family bond with Jiang Xiaoyan and Tianbao, while facing opposition from those who wish to maintain the original plot's tragic outcome.
