Ji Shuyu, a top materials scientist from the modern era, transmigrates into the body of a spoiled young woman in 1965 Shanghai. The original host had ruined her life by listening to her stepmother, Lin Xiumei, and stepsister, Ji Meiling, who forced her to give up a coveted state-run job and go to the countryside in Ji Meiling’s place. The original host was also pregnant and had been pressuring her husband, He Yuan, a naval officer stationed on a remote island, to divorce her. Upon waking, Ji Shuyu discovers she is three months pregnant and immediately assesses her dire situation. Unlike the original host, she is rational and strategic. She realizes that going to the countryside would lead to her death, so she decides to flee to the island to reunite with He Yuan, whom she learns was loyal and had been patiently waiting for her.
Ji Shuyu awakens a mysterious system known as the Points Mall, which allows her to exchange items she owns for points to purchase goods, technology, and services. Her first move is to feign compliance with her family’s demands while secretly negotiating for compensation. She presents an exorbitant list of demands, including cash, grain coupons, and fabric vouchers, leveraging the threat of exposing her father’s political vulnerabilities. Her stepmother, desperate to keep Ji Meiling’s job and avoid scandal, reluctantly agrees. Ji Shuyu uses the system to exchange ordinary household items for points, gradually accumulating enough capital to upgrade her mall and unlock a storage space. She also discovers her late mother’s notebook, which contains valuable materials science knowledge, and decides to keep it rather than sell it.
While waiting for the compensation, Ji Shuyu secretly investigates her family. She discovers that her stepmother is having an affair with a man named Kang Yong and is embezzling family funds. Ji Shuyu steals three hundred yuan from a secret compartment in her stepmother’s bedroom and exchanges it for points, causing Lin Xiumei to panic when she discovers the theft. To deflect suspicion, Ji Shuyu frames Ji Meiling by planting money near her door, causing a family feud. Her father, Ji Guodong, furious at the implication of corruption and ideological deviation, forces Lin Xiumei to pay the full compensation to keep the matter quiet. Ji Shuyu also secures a job transfer for Ji Meiling’s rival and obtains an introduction letter from her late mother’s former superior, Uncle Zhang, further enriching herself.
Before leaving Shanghai, Ji Shuyu signs the countryside assignment form using an erasable pen, ensuring the signature disappears before her family can use it to prevent her departure. She then empties the family home of all valuable assets through the system, leaving Lin Xiumei and Ji Meiling destitute. She also mails anonymous photos of her stepmother’s affair to her father, causing him to collapse from rage and shock. Ji Shuyu departs for the island, where she is met by He Yuan’s comrade, Zhao Qiang. During the long journey, she learns that He Yuan had turned down a marriage proposal from a leader’s daughter to honor his commitment to her, and had worked tirelessly to earn the qualifications to bring her to the island. Ji Shuyu, now secure with her system and her husband’s support, prepares to build a new life on the island, armed with ample supplies and scientific knowledge.
