Biased Affection

Bai Shang is a young man who has spent his life in a wheelchair following a severe car accident at age seven that damaged his leg nerves. Doctors had declared he would never walk again, leaving him with a profound physical limitation and a complex family dynamic involving a mother with mental illness. His life changes when he inexplicably binds to a redemption system that offers him a chance to regain the use of his legs. The system promises that if Bai Shang successfully redeems villains in this world within five years, his legs will heal; however, failure to complete the task within the deadline will result in him returning to his wheelchair. Initially, Bai Shang and the system seek an easy target to complete the mission quickly, but their plans are altered when they encounter Wen Xun.

One winter evening, while visiting his mother at a psychiatric hospital, Bai Shang is blocked on a mountain road by a shivering, nearly nude boy. The boy, Wen Xun, is wearing hospital attire and appears fragile, with visible injuries including restraint marks and cigarette burns. The system identifies Wen Xun as the number one villain in the world, warning Bai Shang that redeeming him is extremely difficult and risky. Despite the warning, moved by Wen Xun’s pitiful pleas and tears, Bai Shang decides to take him home. He rationalizes this decision by planning to cast a wide net, hoping to redeem multiple villains to increase his chances of success. Wen Xun, who is deaf, clings to Bai Shang, calling him brother and promising to be good. Bai Shang agrees to let him stay, unaware of the true nature of the boy he has rescued.

Wen Xun initially appears to be the perfect companion, excelling at household chores and displaying a gentle, obedient demeanor. He becomes increasingly clingy, refusing to sleep until Bai Shang returns home. During this time, Bai Shang also identifies another potential redemption target: Xu Yan, a high school senior whose violent gambler father has ruined their family. Xu Yan is being harassed by debt collectors, and Bai Shang intervenes, paying off the debts to help Xu Yan return to his studies. Bai Shang believes this will be an easier mission, dedicating significant time and money to support Xu Yan’s education and well-being. Meanwhile, his relationship with Wen Xun deepens, leading to a romantic and physical intimacy that Bai Shang accepts, though he remains cautious about Wen Xun’s obsessive tendencies.

The turning point arrives when Wen Xun’s grandfather confronts Bai Shang, revealing dark truths about Wen Xun’s past. The grandfather claims that Wen Xun is a lunatic who self-harmed and manipulated Bai Shang into taking him in. He asserts that Wen Xun has been watching Bai Shang for ten years, planning to destroy him. Shocked, Bai Shang confronts Wen Xun, who admits to lying but explains that their connection dates back to childhood. Bai Shang recalls protecting a young Wen Xun from bullies at the hospital, an act that Wen Xun never forgot. Wen Xun confesses his obsession and desire to belong to Bai Shang, leading to a period of tension and emotional turmoil.

As Bai Shang continues to support Xu Yan, the latter becomes increasingly entitled and demanding. When Bai Shang refuses to provide more money, Xu Yan turns to online gambling and resorts to violence. One night, Xu Yan ambushes Bai Shang, blaming him for his misfortunes and attempting to cripple his legs with an iron rod. Just as Xu Yan is about to strike, Wen Xun appears and saves Bai Shang, taking a knife wound meant for him. Xu Yan is arrested, and Wen Xun is rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. During Wen Xun’s recovery, Bai Shang realizes the depth of his feelings for him, acknowledging that despite the lies and manipulation, Wen Xun’s love is real. The system announces that the redemption task for Wen Xun is complete, granting Bai Shang the ability to walk. The story concludes with Bai Shang and Wen Xun planning to marry and start a new life together, leaving behind the past and embracing their future.
