“Beloved in the Palm”

Xue Qingyin, a modern office worker, transmigrates into the body of a supporting character in a novel titled The Emperor’s Exclusive Love: The Imperial Consort. In this new identity, she is Xue Qingyin, the eldest daughter of Lord Xue Chengdong, a high-ranking official. Born frail and poisoned in the womb, she has been spoiled by her family, particularly her doting mother, Lady Xue. However, her life is complicated by her obsessive love for He Songning, the male lead of the novel. He Songning is actually the illegitimate son of the emperor, raised as the Xue family’s eldest son after the death of their real heir. The original Xue Qingyin refused to accept this truth and stubbornly pursued him, causing friction within the household. Upon realizing her situation, Xue Qingyin decides to abandon her previous infatuation and live a quiet, comfortable life, avoiding the protagonist’s dangerous political entanglements.

He Songning, aware of his true lineage and ambitious for power, views Xue Qingyin’s affection as a nuisance. He attempts to distance himself from her, even trying to arrange her marriage to Prince Wei, a man with eighteen wives, to discourage her. Xue Qingyin, however, feigns ignorance and illness to avoid his schemes. During a poetry gathering hosted by Prince Wei, Xue Qingyin wanders into a secluded garden and accidentally witnesses an illicit affair involving exam fraud. She is discovered by Prince Xuan, a powerful and feared prince who is a rival to He Songning. Prince Xuan covers her mouth to prevent her from screaming, leading to a tense and intimate encounter. Xue Qingyin, unafraid and pragmatic, makes a joke about his appearance to ease the tension, leaving Prince Xuan intrigued by her unusual demeanor.

Later, during a kite-flying outing with He Songning, Xue Qingyin suffers a health crisis due to her weak constitution. Prince Xuan, who is also present, orders his men to rescue her and brings her to his mansion for medical treatment. He uses his authority to ensure she receives care from the imperial physician and arranges for her safe return home, claiming that Princess Sheng’an invited her to the palace to protect her reputation. This act earns Xue Qingyin the favor of the royal family and strengthens her position within the Xue household. She also manages to secure control over her family’s business assets from her mother, further ensuring her financial independence.

Meanwhile, Xue Qingyin is summoned to the palace, where she meets the Fourth Princess, who is known for her cruel nature. The Fourth Princess selects Xue Qingyin as a companion, but it is revealed that this is part of a scheme involving Concubine Wan, the mother of Prince Wei. Xue Qingyin finds herself entangled in the complex web of palace politics, with Prince Xuan’s attention increasingly focused on her. As she navigates these challenges, she maintains her goal of living a peaceful life, but the actions of He Songning and the royal family threaten to pull her into the center of the story’s conflict.
