Beastmen Become No. 1 in the Apocalypse by Summoning Wind and Rain

Bai Long, a former funeral home corpse transporter with exceptional psychological resilience, awakens in a desolate garbage dump on Garbage Star, a lawless planet in Sector 30 of the United Star System. She has transmigrated into the body of a frail, abused orphan who shares her name. The original owner was constantly beaten by a man named Simon, a violent criminal who used her as an emotional outlet. When Simon attempts to kill her to sell her beastman flesh on the black market, Bai Long instinctively defends herself using self-defense techniques she learned to prevent corpse reanimation. She stabs him to death, an act that triggers a flood of memories revealing her new reality: she is now a beastwoman, a minority group discriminated against in this interstellar society. Despite her weakened physical condition and chronic illness, Bai Long accepts her situation with pragmatic calm, prioritizing survival above all else.

After killing Simon, Bai Long searches his body and discovers a Star Ring, a high-tech device connecting the networked worlds of the Star Alliance. The device reveals that a mysterious mutation is sweeping through the galaxy, causing sudden deaths and transforming people into flesh-eating monsters. Realizing the danger, she swims across a polluted moat to reach the city, enduring hostility from residents who despise beastkin. She visits a hidden pharmacy run by Old Ta, the only person who showed her kindness, but finds him in the process of mutating into a zombie. In the ensuing struggle, Bai Long is forced to kill him to survive. As chaos erupts in the city, with armed squads from the Star Alliance attempting to contain the outbreak, Bai Long witnesses the brutal efficiency of the upper-class forces who view Garbage Star’s inhabitants as expendable.

Seeking refuge, Bai Long heads to a crowded shelter where desperation drives people to violence. A man attacks her to steal her Star Ring, which contains a starship ticket she acquired from Old Ta’s body. To escape the mob, she throws the device into the crowd, causing a frenzy that allows her to slip away. She collapses in a crevice, where her beastman physiology begins to manifest; she discovers a tail and the ability to manipulate water from her fingers. After recovering, she learns that the Star Alliance is evacuating espers—individuals with special abilities—to safer districts. Bai Long realizes she possesses an esper power and decides to infiltrate the evacuation starship to escape the dying planet.

At the docking site, Bai Long uses a second starship ticket she found on a dead child to board the vessel. Inside, she observes that the other passengers also display unique abilities, confirming she is among the chosen survivors. However, she discovers that zombies have already infiltrated the ship, hidden among the lower-deck cargo. When armed soldiers discover the infestation, they seal off the area, leaving the passengers in limbo. Bai Long avoids detection by hiding in the shadows and later slips away when the ship lands in District 20, a coastal city known as Sea City. She refuses to follow the armed forces, choosing instead to navigate the apocalypse on her own terms.

In Sea City, Bai Long encounters a group of three espers led by a woman named An Ran, who can detect temperature anomalies. The group is scavenging supplies in a burning building when they are ambushed by zombies. Bai Long intervenes, saving them with her water manipulation and a makeshift weapon. Impressed by her strength and discretion, An Ran invites her to join their team. Bai Long accepts, recognizing that alliances are necessary for survival in this new world. As they navigate the zombie-infested city, Bai Long continues to uncover the mysteries of her beastman heritage and the true nature of the mutation, setting the stage for a journey through the fractured Star Alliance.
