Ye Yu is a man who has spent three years as the kept companion of Gu Yan, the cold and powerful head of the Gu family. Living a life of material comfort in Yun City, Ye Yu believes his role is secure until he suddenly awakens with the memories of a novel he once read. The book, titled The Overbearing CEO's Innocent White Moonlight, reveals that he is merely a disposable side character destined to be discarded when the male lead's first love, Su Jin, returns. Worse, the novel describes Ye Yu's gruesome fate: he is to be tortured to death by the second male lead and left with no remains. Horrified by this predetermined tragedy, Ye Yu decides he must escape his role as cannon fodder at all costs.

Ye Yu executes a meticulous plan to fake his death. He leaves Yun City and travels to Yong City, where he creates the illusion that he perished in a fire at Times Square. To make the deception convincing, he scatters milk powder among the ashes and leaves his identification card behind. For three months, he lives in hiding, unaware that he is pregnant with Gu Yan's child. The reality of male pregnancy in this world forces him to confront a new set of challenges, including the need to transfer his household registration back to Yun City for legal birth documentation. Believing Gu Yan has moved on and forgotten him, Ye Yu returns to Yun City, only to be immediately intercepted by Gu Yan and his bodyguards at the train station.

Gu Yan, who has been searching obsessively for Ye Yu, captures him and brings him back to the Imperial Garden. Contrary to Ye Yu's expectations of punishment, Gu Yan displays a confusing mix of coldness and unexpected care. When Su Jin arrives and attempts to manipulate the situation by feigning injury, Gu Yan ignores her completely, showing no interest in the female lead who was supposed to be his true love. Instead, he focuses entirely on Ye Yu, taking him to an amusement park and engaging in domestic activities that suggest a deepening attachment. However, Ye Yu remains wary, attempting to escape again by faking a stomach ache to slip away to the hospital, only to be caught once more by Gu Yan.

The tension escalates at a club where Su Jin confronts Ye Yu, mocking him as a mere plaything. Ye Yu, feeling the weight of his impending doom, decides to reveal his pregnancy to Gu Yan as a gamble. He shows Gu Yan the milk powder he used for his fake ashes, and when Gu Yan demands to know why he ran, Ye Yu admits he is pregnant. Gu Yan's reaction is silent and intense. Shortly after, Gu Yan disappears, leaving Ye Yu to believe he has been abandoned. Two months later, Ye Yu learns from Gu Yan's friend Lin Yu that Gu Yan has been in a coma since an accident that occurred the night Ye Yu revealed his pregnancy. Gu Yan had arranged to transfer all his assets to Ye Yu before falling unconscious, anticipating his own fate.

Ye Yu rushes to the hospital and visits Gu Yan in the ICU. Believing Gu Yan is beyond saving, Ye Yu decides to leave the city and raise the child alone, telling the unconscious Gu Yan that he will find another father for the baby. As he speaks these words, Gu Yan's eyelids twitch, and he suddenly wakes up. Enraged by the thought of Ye Yu with another man, Gu Yan pulls him into a passionate kiss. This contact triggers a revelation for Ye Yu: Gu Yan is also a self-aware character who has been fighting against the storyline. Gu Yan refused to accept his role as the male lead destined for Su Jin, and his coma was the result of his struggle against the narrative forces. Having broken free from fate, Gu Yan and Ye Yu marry abroad. When Su Jin returns, demanding to know why Gu Yan is not following the plot, she reveals her own awareness of the story. Gu Yan, no longer bound by destiny, orders her to leave and never return. Ye Yu gives birth to a daughter, and the two of them build a life together, having successfully rewritten their fate from a tragic romance into a story of their own choosing.
