Apocalypse Plot Twist: Oops! I fell for the Side character

Mo Han, an ordinary college student, transmigrates into an apocalypse novel he previously read, finding himself in the body of a cannon fodder character destined to die. In the original story, this Mo Han attempted to assault the female lead, Ye Qingtang, and was accidentally killed by the male lead, Zhong Tianxiang, who then inherited a valuable jade pendant containing a massive storage space. Determined to survive, Mo Han decides to keep the pendant for himself, successfully bonding with it through his blood before the zombie outbreak begins. With three months of warning, he liquidates his inheritance to stockpile essential supplies, including food, water, and daily necessities, while resolving to avoid the romantic entanglements that led to his original death.

On July 3, 2017, the apocalypse arrives as a mysterious sleepiness spreads across the globe, causing those who do not wake up to turn into zombies. Mo Han awakens with the rare ability to control all three states of water—ice, liquid, and vapor. He reunites with Zhong Tianxiang, who possesses metal control, and the two decide to travel together to City C, where Zhong Tianxiang’s parents are located. Their journey is fraught with danger, including encounters with mutated creatures and hostile survivors. During a confrontation with a group led by Shen Yuan, Mo Han saves Zhou Wu from a level-two mutant snake, causing him to break through to level two and earning the group's trust. The combined group travels toward City C, facing increasing threats from powerful mutants.

A critical turning point occurs when the group encounters Situ Yu, the younger brother of another male lead, who is under the control of a level-two mind-controller. Mo Han detects the anomaly and helps Shen Yuan defeat the controller, saving Situ Yu and bringing him into their fold. Later, while fleeing a pack of mutant wolves led by a level-three fire-type alpha, Mo Han and Situ Yu are separated from the main group. After killing the wolves, Situ Yu is mortally wounded by the alpha’s final attack. To save him, Mo Han destroys his own water and ice abilities to absorb the wolf cores and awaken a healing ability, a sacrifice that leaves him vulnerable but saves Situ Yu’s life.

During his recovery, Mo Han discovers that his healing ability resonates with a mutated snow mastiff he saves, allowing his water powers to slowly recover and evolve into ice control. The mastiff and her cub join his group, significantly strengthening their combat capabilities. When Mo Han and Situ Yu reunite with Shen Yuan, Zhong Tianxiang, and Ye Qingtang, the group dynamics shift. Mo Han maintains a cautious distance from the main protagonists, aware of the novel’s plot, while building a closer bond with Situ Yu. The combined group faces further challenges, including a massive swarm of vampire bats controlled by a hidden level-three mind-type mutant, forcing them to rely on their combined strengths to survive the night.

The story follows Mo Han’s struggle to navigate the dangerous new world while avoiding the fate of his original character. He leverages his knowledge of the plot to secure alliances and resources, particularly focusing on his partnership with Situ Yu and the mutant animals. As they travel toward City C, the group encounters more hostile survivors and powerful mutants, testing their resilience. Mo Han’s decision to sacrifice his offensive powers for healing marks a significant shift in his role within the group, transforming him from a fighter into a crucial support unit. The narrative highlights the tension between changing the predetermined story and adapting to the unpredictable nature of the apocalypse, as Mo Han seeks to survive without falling victim to the romantic and fatal errors of the original cannon fodder.
