Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains

Nan Muran, a wealthy heiress, wakes up in her penthouse apartment to discover she has returned to May 13th, three months before the global apocalypse. In her previous life, she endured five years of hell in an underground laboratory where she was experimented on alongside Si Ye, a man with rare five-element powers who ultimately sacrificed himself to save her. Nan Muran had then self-destructed, taking the lab with her. She also retains her spatial storage ability, known as Xuan Wu, which functions as a massive, time-freezing warehouse.

With the apocalypse set to begin on August 15th with two months of rain followed by acidic, mutating showers, Nan Muran resolves to survive and rewrite her tragic fate. Her first priority is liquidating her assets. She contacts Guo Fei, her grandfather’s loyal lawyer, to sell off her shares in Nanqiao Group and other properties, aiming to convert her wealth into survival supplies. Simultaneously, she plans to secure a remote European-style villa on Nanwu Mountain, which she knows from her past life is the location of an underground lab entrance and where she will eventually reunite with Si Ye. She also purchases a fortified villa in a residential complex to serve as her primary shelter.

Nan Muran’s family, the Nan clan, remains oblivious to her rebirth. Her grandmother, uncle, aunt, and cousin Nan Muting have spent years manipulating her inheritance. They scheme to force her to trade her valuable Nanqiao shares for a failing supermarket chain, Shenghui Group, hoping to maintain control over the family empire. During a family dinner, Nan Muran feigns ignorance and emotional manipulation to trick them into transferring Shenghui to her. Unbeknownst to them, she already knows Shenghui is deeply in debt and its properties are held by her grandmother, making it a hollow shell that she only wants for its inventory and supplier networks.

Once in control of Shenghui, Nan Muran uses the company’s logistics to stockpile massive quantities of food, water, and daily necessities, storing them directly into her spatial dimension. She also recruits Jiawu, a former elite mercenary hiding in the basement of her mountain villa with his comatose wife. Using her wood-type healing powers, Nan Muran wakes Jiawu’s wife, earning his unwavering loyalty. She hires him to train her in combat and firearms, recognizing that survival will require more than just supplies. She also rescues her German Shepherd, Tank, from the Nan family villa, knowing he will be essential companionship and protection in the coming chaos.

As the apocalypse approaches, Nan Muran travels abroad to purchase weapons from Russian arms dealers and other international suppliers, spending hundreds of millions on firearms, ammunition, and military-grade equipment. She also hoards vast amounts of local delicacies and emergency supplies from various countries. Back in West City, she completes the fortification of her mountain villa and moves her stockpiled goods into her new shelter. She maintains a cold, detached demeanor toward her family and her fiancé, Qi Li, who is secretly involved with her cousin Nan Muting. When Qi Li invites her to his birthday party, she accepts but plans to use the occasion to sever ties and assert her independence. With the world on the brink of collapse, Nan Muran is prepared to face the coming darkness with her resources, allies, and second chance at life.
