Qin Zhiyu is a prison guard in a third-tier Chinese city who has endured a life of solitude since her adoptive parents died in a shipwreck two years prior. She maintains a distant but professional relationship with her colleagues, particularly Cai Linlang, and keeps in touch with Wei Xinglan, a martial arts instructor from her past. Her life is upended when she begins experiencing vivid, recurring dreams that she designates as her "First Playthrough." These dreams depict an impending apocalypse known as the Heavenly Disaster, a series of catastrophic events including extreme heat, torrential rains, and floods that reduce all human-made structures to raw natural materials. In these visions, humanity is bound to a Cataclysm Survival Guide, and survival depends on establishing Sanctuaries, gathering resources, and fending off mutated creatures and hostile humans.

As the dreams intensify, Qin Zhiyu realizes they are prophetic rather than merely psychological. She discovers that in her previous experience, she died at the hands of a rival survivor named Wen Zhiyin, who possessed a powerful Pocket Dimension ability. Determined to change her fate, Qin Zhiyu begins rigorous physical training, studying self-defense techniques and building her endurance. She also reaches out to Wei Xinglan for combat instruction videos. Her preparation is interrupted when she encounters a mutated parasitic vine in her residential complex just days before the predicted disaster. In a desperate struggle, she kills the creature and consumes its energy crystal, which triggers the activation of the Cataclysm System. The system grants her unique abilities, including item replication and reconnaissance, along with a significant boost to her constitution, setting her apart from ordinary survivors.

With only hours remaining before the Heavenly Disaster, Qin Zhiyu sends cryptic warnings to her friends, advising them to seek high ground and sparse populations. She then flees her apartment complex as buildings around her begin to dissolve into light under laser-like rays. During her escape, she encounters mutated humanoid monsters and a persistent stranger named Yang Muyi, whom she briefly assists before continuing alone. She reaches an abandoned villa district twenty kilometers away, where she establishes her Sanctuary, naming it "Dawn." The disaster transforms the landscape, turning man-made materials into resources like wood, stone, iron, and rare gold. Qin Zhiyu quickly secures her new home, unlocking a chat system that connects survivors globally and receiving a Novice Gift Pack that provides superior tools and blueprints compared to her previous life.

On her first night, Qin Zhiyu faces immediate threats from three hostile survivors who attempt to rob her Sanctuary. Using her combat training and Iron Sword, she defeats and kills them, securing their treasure chests and obtaining a storage device. She then utilizes her replication ability to duplicate kitchen blueprints, selling them on the global trading platform to acquire the raw materials needed to upgrade her Sanctuary. By constructing a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and storage areas, she creates a functional and defensible living space. The narrative establishes her as a strategic and ruthless survivor who leverages her foreknowledge and system abilities to gain an early advantage, while also hinting at future conflicts with other gifted survivors like Wen Zhiyin and Mei Xunmei who appear in her dreams.
