Fang Zhiyuan, a modern man with a hardened background, transmigrates into the body of Li Hu, a ten-year-old boy in an ancient village where men can give birth. The original Li Hu died after being pushed into a river by Shen Gui, the son of Feng Mei, a ger who had an affair with Li Hu's father, Li Fu. Li Hu's mother, Fang Sheng, had died shortly before from anger and illness, caused by Li Fu's betrayal and the village's hostility. Fang Zhiyuan, possessing the memories and personality of a ruthless survivor from his previous life, decides to change his fate. He realizes that staying in the Li family means certain oppression and death, so he plans to sever ties with his father and be adopted by his uncle, Fang Zeng, a kind-hearted hunter in the neighboring Lin Village.
Fang Zhiyuan approaches Fang Zeng on the seventh day after his mother's death, claiming that Fang Sheng appeared in his dream asking him to become Fang Zeng's son. He reveals that Li Fu and Feng Mei are responsible for his mother's death and that he was beaten nearly to death by Shen Gui. Fang Zeng, already resentful of the Li family for hiding the truth and mistreating his nephew, agrees to adopt him. Fang Zhiyuan insists on changing his surname to Fang and cutting all ties with the Li family. Fang Zeng confronts Li Fu and the village head, Li Ren, at Li Fu's house, where wedding preparations for Feng Mei are underway. Fang Zeng exposes Feng Mei's pregnancy and the affair, threatening to take the matter to the government office, which would ruin the reputations of both Li Fu and the entire Li Village.
Under pressure, Li Ren and Li Fu agree to the adoption but insist Li Hu keep the Li surname. Fang Zhiyuan refuses, demanding that Li Fu observe a year of mourning for his mother and publicly punish Shen Gui for the assault. When Li Fu refuses and insults him, Fang Zhiyuan publicly declares that he will no longer recognize Li Fu as his father, vowing never to help him in life or death. Shocked by the boy's defiance and the potential scandal, the villagers and Li Ren force Li Fu to sign an adoption document, severing all legal and familial ties between Li Hu and the Li family. Fang Zhiyuan changes his name to Fang Zhiyuan and moves to Lin Village with Fang Zeng.
In Lin Village, Fang Zeng treats his new nephew with kindness and generosity, buying him meat, clothes, and fine rice. Fang Zhiyuan, though outwardly a child, uses his adult mind to plan for the future. He reflects on his past life, where he was betrayed by relatives after his parents' death and became a gangster, only to regret rejecting a close friend who loved him. Now, with a caring uncle and a second chance at life, he resolves to live well and make money. He begins to help with household chores, cooking meals with skills learned from his previous life, and plans to assist Fang Zeng in hunting and business. The story ends with Fang Zhiyuan settling into his new home, having successfully escaped his abusive past and begun a new life under his uncle's protection.
