Ye Mingyue, a thirty-something woman from the twenty-first century, lived a lonely, high-pressure corporate life until her grandmother’s death prompted her to resign and seek peace in her grandmother’s old house. There, she discovered a supernatural refrigerator and later an entire spatial dimension that endlessly replenished food, supplies, and medicine. Anticipating an apocalypse based on recurring dreams of starvation, she stockpiled resources extensively. However, before the disaster could strike in her own time, she was transmigrated into the body of a twenty-one-year-old woman in the Dashun Dynasty, also named Ye Mingyue. This new body was on the verge of death after being pushed and hitting her head during a chaotic refugee flight caused by famine and war.
Upon waking, Ye Mingyue found herself in a dilapidated earthen room with her mother-in-law, Madam Zhao, and sister-in-law, Tian Guihua. Despite the original owner’s reputation for being selfish and difficult, Madam Zhao and Tian Guihua insisted on taking her along, placing her on a cart for the journey. Ye Mingyue quickly realized she had brought her spatial ability with her, allowing her to access her modern supplies discreetly. She also discovered a talking black cat named Banban, who introduced her to spiritual dew that accelerated healing and improved health. The space had a daily time limit, initially restricting her stays to twenty-eight minutes, which grew as she adapted.
The core conflict arose from the harsh realities of the refugee journey. Ye Mingyue’s family, consisting of the frail but kind Madam Zhao, the simple but hardworking Tian Guihua, the educated but guilt-ridden Lu Yunchuan, and his pregnant wife Feng Xiulian, was vulnerable. They joined the elder branch of the family, led by the greedy and cruel Madam Yu, hoping for protection. However, Madam Yu stole their grain and failed to provide adequate food or guard duty. When a mob of desperate refugees attacked the caravan, the elder branch abandoned the younger family, leaving Madam Zhao injured while defending Ye Mingyue. Ye Mingyue used pepper spray from her space to repel the attackers, saving her mother-in-law but exposing the elder family’s cowardice and greed.
After retrieving their grain through the village head’s intervention, Ye Mingyue decided to separate from the main group. She led her immediate family onto a secluded mountain path, where Banban helped them hunt a pheasant. To explain her sudden provision of modern foods like steamed buns and sausages, she claimed an immortal had gifted her the spatial ability after she survived her head injury, warning that the secret must remain within the family. Madam Zhao accepted this explanation, and the family began to thrive on the superior food and clean water from the space. As they traveled, Ye Mingyue focused on keeping her family healthy and safe, using the spiritual dew to heal wounds and boost their strength, while navigating the dangers of the famine-stricken land with the goal of reaching Yong’an Prefecture to reunite with her missing brothers-in-law.
