Wen Zhile, a brilliant academic from the original world, dies and is reborn into a parallel 1989 China as Dai Zhi, a sixteen-year-old girl abused by the greedy Dai family in Jianghe Village. Upon regaining her memories, she discovers her Qi Luck has been stolen by Dai Nuan, who impersonated her and lives as the beloved daughter of Wen Zhile’s biological parents, Professor Wen Shuren and Shu Ying. Trapped and forced to marry the village chief, Wen Zhile escapes by stealing the Dai family’s savings and fleeing into the mountains. She is rescued by Zhou Jihuai, a colonel and fellow Qi Luck Holder who died in her original world, and travels to Jingzhou City to reclaim her life.
Wen Zhile checks into a hotel under the alias Dai Zhi and begins a strategic campaign to expose the truth. She attends her father’s university lectures, where he notices her striking resemblance to himself and invites her to dinner. During the meal, she reveals her abusive situation, prompting her parents to investigate the Dai family. Simultaneously, Zhou Jihuai reconnects with his family, including his cousin Shu Cheng’an, who harbors resentment toward the Wen family due to Dai Nuan’s behavior. Zhou Jihuai becomes increasingly protective of Wen Zhile, recognizing her as someone under his care.
As the investigation unfolds, Wen Zhile’s parents grow suspicious of Dai Nuan’s identity, noting inconsistencies such as her refusal to let them bathe her and her lack of resemblance to them. Wen Zhile plans to reveal her birthmark to confirm her identity, while Zhou Jihuai’s family dynamics complicate the situation with Dai Nuan’s attempts to infiltrate the Zhou household. The story follows Wen Zhile’s efforts to dismantle the impostor’s life, reclaim her family, and navigate the political and social landscape of 1989 China, with Zhou Jihuai as her steadfast ally.
