Xu Duoduo, a spatial ability user from a post-apocalyptic world, dies when the team captain sacrifices her to save his lover. Her parents, who possess powerful spatial and time-manipulation abilities, merge their dimensional spaces with hers and send her consciousness into a new body in 1965 China. She awakens as the fifteen-year-old second daughter of the Xu family in Hulu County, Liaoning Province. The original Xu Duoduo had been pushed by her cousin Xu Sanyou, who stole the egg she was eating, causing her to hit her head on a table corner. She lay unconscious for two days before dying, only for the apocalyptic survivor to take her place.
The Xu family is a large, patriarchal household of eighteen people led by the cruel Old Xu and Old Madam Xu. The grandparents blatantly favor sons over daughters, a preference reflected in the names given to the children. Xu Ergen, the second son, is the unloved middle child who married his childhood sweetheart, Zhou Rong. Because they produced three daughters in a row, the grandparents despise them. The family’s labor and income are exploited, with Xu Ergen and Zhou Rong working as "old oxen" to support the entire household while receiving the meagerest share of food and resources. Their three daughters, named Xu Bu, Xu Duoduo, and Xu Ting, are starved and overworked, while the sons of the eldest and third uncles are doted upon and contribute nothing.
Xu Duoduo quickly realizes she has transmigrated into the world of a novel she read before her death, titled "The Fallen Heiress." In the original story, her branch of the family suffers a tragic fate. After she dies from her head injury, her mother loses her sanity and disappears, her father dies in a factory accident, and her eldest sister is married off to an abusive official. The youngest sister is forced into the same abusive marriage and beaten to death. The family eventually gains wealth only after marrying into the female lead, Lin Weiwei, who is revealed to be the granddaughter of a capitalist. Determined to change this destiny and protect her loving parents and sisters, Xu Duoduo decides to separate from the toxic family immediately.
Using her wits and the secret spatial space inherited from her previous life, which now contains vast supplies and farmland, Xu Duoduo orchestrates a plan. When the family attempts to force her to drop the charges against her cousins, she pretends to cough up blood, alarming the doctors and neighbors. She demands that the family split, insisting that the eldest branch move out empty-handed while the grandparents live with her father’s family. The grandparents, desperate to save their favored grandsons from police detention, agree to the separation, though they secretly plan to renege on the deal later.
Xu Ergen, moved by his daughter’s courage and his own long-suppressed resentment, finally stands up to his parents. He refuses to hand over his wages and demands justice for his daughter. The family division is formalized, granting Xu Ergen’s branch their independence. Xu Duoduo and her family leave the crowded household, using the separation money to transfer to a better hospital in the city. With her spatial abilities and the support of her family, Xu Duoduo begins a new life, determined to ensure her parents and sisters live in comfort and safety, far removed from the tragedy that awaited them in the original novel.
