Yun Su is a staff member of the Transmigration Bureau, tasked with saving fictional villains whose tragic destinies are sealed by their authors. Her first mission targets Gu Yan, a boy born out of wedlock to a wealthy family. His biological father refuses to acknowledge him, and his mother suffers from severe mental illness, subjecting him to abuse from childhood. After her mother’s suicide when Gu Yan is five, he is sent to live with his maternal uncle, where he faces neglect and hostility. In the original narrative, Gu Yan grows into a ruthless tycoon who destroys his enemies but ultimately falls victim to the protagonist’s plot armor, dying in prison. Yun Su intervenes during a rainstorm at Huayang Kindergarten, where Gu Yan is being bullied by classmates who repeat cruel rumors about his parentage. She rescues him from the harassment and, despite his initial suspicion, earns his cautious trust by offering him protection and kindness.
Yun Su discovers that Gu Yan’s uncle, Gu Jian’an, is a gambler who views the boy as a burden. Realizing the child’s precarious situation, she takes him to a hotel, buys him clothes and food, and begins searching for a suitable adoptive family to remove him from his toxic environment. However, her plans are shattered when Gu Jian’an and his wife sell Gu Yan to human traffickers. Yun Su tracks the kidnappers using her bureau-issued wrist device and pursues them in a borrowed car. She intercepts the van on a remote road, where Gu Yan has already escaped and is being recaptured by the trafficker. Yun Su bluffingly threatens the man with a model gun, but when he disarms her, Gu Yan bravely bites the trafficker’s leg, allowing Yun Su to counterattack and subdue him. Police arrive shortly after, arresting the trafficker and Gu Jian’an’s family for their involvement in the sale.
With his guardians stripped of their rights, Gu Yan is left in Yun Su’s care. He suffers from severe trauma and insecurity, crying uncontrollably when he fears abandonment. Yun Su comforts him, moves into a rented apartment with him, and enrolls him in a new kindergarten to shield him from past bullies. At school, Gu Yan encounters Shao Jun, a spoiled and aggressive classmate who steals and damages Yun Su’s gift of a new backpack. When Shao Jun kicks Gu Yan, the boy punches him in self-defense. Shao Jun’s mother demands an apology, but Yun Su exposes the boy’s bullying behavior and secures a promise of apology from the family. Gu Yan’s leg injury heals, and he begins to adapt to his new life.
During a weekend trip to an amusement park, Yun Su and Gu Yan bond over rides and bubbles, marking a shift from fear to joy for the child. At a restaurant, they meet a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Gu, whose daughter shares Gu Yan’s surname. The encounter hints at a potential connection, though Yun Su remains focused on providing Gu Yan with a stable, loving environment. The story follows Yun Su’s dedication to breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect that defined Gu Yan’s early years, aiming to redirect his fate away from the darkness predicted by the original novel.
