Yun Yin, a woman suffering from a severe heart condition, dies and transmigrates into the body of the original owner of a popular business warfare novel titled The Rise and Fall of the Business World. She finds herself in the role of the female antagonist, the so-called white moonlight of the story's main villain, Pei Yu. The original owner was deeply scheming and had agreed to help the male lead, Zhou Wenze, steal classified bidding documents from Pei Yu's company in exchange for a chance at a relationship with him. Yun Yin, however, is neither cunning nor ambitious; she simply wishes to survive and live a quiet life, despite her fragile health which mirrors her previous one.
Upon waking, Yun Yin discovers she is in Pei Yu's study with a stack of documents on the desk. She quickly realizes these are likely a test set by Pei Yu, not the real secrets. When Pei Yu enters, Yun Yin is terrified by his cold, psychopathic demeanor described in the novel. She feigns illness to escape the situation and collapses. After waking in a hospital, she learns that the original owner's heart condition is just as severe as her own. She resolves to stay away from both the male lead and the villain, ignoring Zhou Wenze's persistent calls and messages.
Pei Yu, who has also transmigrated back in time to his youth, observes Yun Yin's behavior with growing curiosity. In his previous life, he was betrayed by everyone, including Yun Yin, who was used as a pawn by Zhou Wenze. Now, he notices that this Yun Yin is different. She does not scheme against him; instead, she appears indifferent and passive. During a banquet, Yun Yin encounters Zhou Wenze, who tries to manipulate her again. She coldly rejects him, stating she has already provided the bid information and wishes to end their relationship. Pei Yu witnesses this interaction and becomes increasingly intrigued by her change in attitude.
Yun Yin's health deteriorates, leading to another hospitalization where she is diagnosed with a condition requiring bypass surgery. Pei Yu arranges for her treatment but maintains a distant, suspicious demeanor. Meanwhile, Yun Yin's brother, Yun Yang, visits Pei Yu at his company, hoping to secure a collaboration on a major suburban land project. Yun Yin, present during the meeting, unexpectedly suggests that Pei Yu hand the project over to her family. To her surprise, Pei Yu agrees immediately, shocking both Yun Yang and his own assistant, Lu Lin. This decision seems to pave the way for the male lead's future success, as the project was destined to be a stepping stone for Zhou Wenze.
Despite her desire for a quiet life, Yun Yin is drawn into Pei Yu's orbit. He insists she accompany him to work and later takes her to a private restaurant. During a meal, Yun Yin unknowingly orders a dish containing crab, despite having a severe allergy. Pei Yu, aware of her condition, stops her from eating it, revealing his attentiveness. Later, Yun Yin falls ill after napping in his office lounge. Pei Yu drives her home himself and arranges for a private doctor, Qi Ye, to treat her. Throughout these interactions, the dynamic between Yun Yin and Pei Yu shifts from one of fear and suspicion to a complex, ambiguous closeness. Yun Yin remains unaware of Pei Yu's past-life memories, while Pei Yu watches her carefully, trying to decipher her true intentions and the nature of her transformation.
