Guan Youshuang, a twenty-three-year-old mathematics and programming student from the 2020s, dies from overwork and transmigrates into a period novel as the neglected eldest daughter of the Guan family in 1990. Guan Youshuang’s transformation continues as she confronts her family’s abuse and manipulation. She defends her younger brother, Guan Ruijie, from a neighbor’s bullying and teaches him to stand up for himself, breaking the cycle of coddling that ruined him in the original story. She also exposes a neighbor’s scheme to extort money for a fabricated injury, using her logical reasoning and knowledge of the era’s costs to dismantle the false claim. These actions shock her family, who are unaccustomed to her assertiveness and intelligence. Meanwhile, she builds a relationship with her childhood friend, Liang Yuting, and prevents her from falling into the same tragic fate as in the original novel by diverting her from a manipulative suitor.
As the wedding approaches, Guan Youshuang continues to navigate her new life, balancing her duties in the Guan household with her secret income from live streaming. She purchases furniture and supplies for her dowry, asserting her financial autonomy. Gu Errong, meanwhile, finds himself increasingly drawn to Guan Youshuang, intrigued by her strength and independence. The story sets the stage for their eventual marriage, with Guan Youshuang poised to rewrite her destiny and escape the oppressive dynamics of her family, while Gu Errong begins to see her as the partner he always hoped to find.
