Lin Qiao, a woman from the twenty-first century, transmigrates into the body of an eighteen-year-old girl in 1980s China. In this new reality, she inhabits the role of a cannon fodder supporting character in a period novel, destined to become the male lead's troublesome ex-wife. The original Lin Qiao, orphaned and raised by her grandmother, was sold by her greedy uncle and aunt to a divorced man in exchange for urban household registration and financial gain. Upon waking in this body, Lin Qiao discovers she has only two days before the forced marriage takes place. Determined to avoid the tragic fate outlined in the novel, she flees her home and travels to Yandu, the city where the male lead, Ji Duo, resides. Her goal is to enforce a lifelong marriage agreement arranged between her grandmother and Ji Duo’s father decades ago, seeking a partnership that grants her personal freedom while allowing him career independence.

Upon arriving in Yandu, Lin Qiao locates the prestigious Ji family residence but is initially rebuffed by the household staff and Ye Minshu, Ji Duo’s stepmother, who attempts to dismiss her as a fraud seeking connections. However, Ji Duo, a disciplined military officer and the novel’s male lead, arrives and recognizes the girl’s composure and sharpness. Intrigued by her directness and the letter from his father, he takes her to the hospital where his grandfather, Old Mr. Ji, is being treated for high blood pressure. There, Lin Qiao calmly reveals her purpose: she seeks to fulfill the betrothal to escape her abusive relatives. The situation is complicated by Ye Minshu’s arrival with Song Jing, a young woman she claims is the fiancée of Ji Duo’s nephew, Ji Ze, in a desperate attempt to discredit Lin Qiao and protect her own son’s romantic interests.

Old Mr. Ji, perceiving the deception and recognizing the urgency of Lin Qiao’s plight, confronts his daughter-in-law and grandson. He orders Ji Duo to accompany Lin Qiao back to her hometown to resolve the family issues and retrieve her documents. During the journey, a severe storm and a landslide force them to stop in a remote town. While waiting for the road to clear, they discover a man trapped under debris. Ji Duo and Lin Qiao work together to rescue the injured laborer, an act that deepens Ji Duo’s respect for her courage and practicality. They spend the night in the hospital, where Lin Qiao warns Ji Duo not to negotiate with her relatives, predicting their greed will only escalate if she appears weak.

When they arrive at Shahe Village, they find Lin Qiao’s mother, Liu Yulan, who has been searching for her daughter. A public confrontation ensues between Liu Yulan and Lin Qiao’s aunt, Sun Xiuzhi, revealing that Liu Yulan had been paying child support and was not the neglectful mother Sun Xiuzhi claimed. The truth shocks the villagers and exposes the Lin family’s cruelty. Ji Duo handles the situation with authority, ensuring Lin Qiao’s safety and retrieving her household registration and other essential documents. With her legal status secured and her family’s schemes thwarted, Lin Qiao returns to Yandu alongside Ji Duo. The encounter marks a shift in their dynamic, as Ji Duo begins to see past her humble background to the intelligent and resilient woman beneath, setting the stage for a complex relationship built on mutual respect rather than mere obligation.

Horrible. The writing quality and tropes are overused and absolutely ridiculous. Everything is illogical and everyone just bows down to the MC.Just bad, 1.6 from me.

Great novel! The action it is going well, the characters seems real, and the fact that the author is using am MC with an eastern nationality can show diverse this sequel it is going to be. I hope this story will begin as popular as Judah Gremory and Undeads are walking (same creations made by this author)

So far as I read, it's amazing! The writer made this too good and the translator really did their best too, it's easy to read, and it also has some beautiful wordings. Besides, the storyline is very clear which persuades me to cheer for the protagonist in every chapter. I'll give them 9 out of 10 points, the 1 point left I deducted because I want them to update many chapters a day.

Kenny shook himself, returning the vigor to his body. As he looked to Faith and nodded, he was in such a rush to try and understand his new ability, that he didn't realize he was dying. If Faith hadn't interrupted the process when she did, it may have been too late.
