Zhong Yao is a college student who struggles with academic subjects, particularly advanced mathematics, and has failed her CET-6 English exam twice. After taking the test for the third time, she discovers that a video she watched the night before predicted the exam questions with perfect accuracy. Panicked that she might be implicated in a leak scandal, she spends her evening with her friend Si Ning Qing. That night, she encounters a mysterious notification on her phone app, Yu Yin, reporting a gas explosion at a BBQ restaurant that has not yet occurred. Despite suspecting a scam, the detailed images and messages from the account convince her to call the fire department. The predicted explosion happens exactly as foretold, but because of her warning, no one is injured. Zhong Yao realizes her phone has come to life and possesses the ability to predict future disasters.
The next morning, the phone delivers another prophecy: a famous antique collector, Qian You Tong, will be severely injured by a falling billboard. Zhong Yao rushes to the Antique Street to intervene. There, she inadvertently causes a collision that saves Qian You Tong’s son from the falling sign, though her phone is destroyed in the process. She is compensated with a new phone and gains the collector’s WeChat contacts. It is revealed that a supernatural entity named Dou Dou, a spirit of foresight, is responsible for the prophecies. Dou Dou had secretly bonded with Zhong Yao because of her high compatibility, bypassing her owner, Si Ning Qing, who is a powerful cultivator. Si Ning Qing eventually confronts Dou Dou, forcing it to sign a contract where Zhong Yao receives seventy percent of the merit gained from completed tasks.
Zhong Yao initially feels overwhelmed and guilty when a prophecy about a tanker truck explosion results in casualties despite her efforts to stop the original vehicle. She confides in Si Ning Qing, who reveals her own supernatural nature and agrees to let Zhong Yao continue working with Dou Dou. Dou Dou explains that fate is mutable and that their prophecies are merely one branch of many possibilities. To help Zhong Yao manage her academic failures and gain experience, Dou Dou initiates a "newbie village" quest. Zhong Yao creates a social media account under the name "Shao Siming" to post weather prophecies. The account goes viral, attracting millions of views and intense public scrutiny, including accusations of spreading false information. Despite the backlash, the prophecy proves accurate, leading to the account being banned for reports. Meanwhile, Zhong Yao notices strange behavior from Si Ning Qing, suspecting that the person she is communicating with may not be her friend at all, as a mysterious shadowy figure has been observed in the dormitory.
