Shi Yu, a young man who transmigrated into the world of a Lovecraftian horror novel titled "Chaotic Evil Thoughts," struggles to survive in a dangerous reality where supernatural entities hide in plain sight. Having arrived six months prior, he lives a cautious, isolated life as a food livestreamer to fund his basic needs, avoiding the plot's main characters to prevent premature death. The story begins with Shi Yu facing a severe, unexplained increase in appetite while navigating the perils of City B, a setting where ordinary people are vulnerable to unseen horrors. His routine is shattered when a cursed item known as the "Undeliverable Package" escapes from the Psychic Association, a group of powered individuals tasked with protecting the city. This entity, which appears as a normal delivery box, feeds on human life force and had previously claimed several victims before going into hiding.
The narrative shifts focus to Shen Yan, a doctor and member of the Psychic Association, who leads the hunt for the escaped package. Shen Yan, who suffers from chronic insomnia and has merged with a supernatural ability, tracks the entity to a residential complex where it has already drained a victim. Meanwhile, Shi Yu, unaware of the immediate danger, returns home after a grocery shopping trip that further exacerbates his hunger. That night, the cursed package targets Shi Yu’s apartment, attempting to deliver a fatal blow. However, due to a combination of Shi Yu’s phone blocking settings and the timely arrival of Shen Yan’s team, the package is forced to retreat, leaving behind an eyeball as a warning sign. The next morning, Shen Yan and his team confront Shi Yu, revealing the supernatural nature of the threat and informing him that he has been selected as the next target.
As the Association sets up a surveillance operation in Shi Yu’s apartment, tensions rise between Shen Yan and Han Chuyi, a rebellious intern with a mutated wolf bone ability. Han Chuyi proposes a risky plan to use Shi Yu as bait, but Shen Yan rejects it, prioritizing the civilian’s safety. During the standoff, Shi Yu experiences a bizarre incident where the package reappears on his balcony, only to transform into a box of honey-roasted chicken rice, draining its energy in the process and dying. This anomaly leaves the Association puzzled, as the cursed object had never before delivered actual food. Following this event, Shi Yu is taken to the Psychic Association headquarters for a medical check-up. There, he encounters Sang Huaiyu, the novel’s protagonist and a figure of immense power, who feels an inexplicable sense of familiarity toward Shi Yu. Shortly after, a containment breach occurs when a harmless but invisible mimosa-like entity escapes, attaching itself to Shi Yu due to an unexplained affinity. The story concludes with Shi Yu being driven home by Han Chuyi, leaving the nature of his connection to the supernatural world and the reasons behind his heightened hunger and the entities' unusual behavior toward him unresolved.
