Su Li, a twenty-first-century woman who died from overwork, transmigrates into the body of a girl with the same name in a rural Chinese village during the late 1970s. The original host had been a victim of abuse by her stepsister, Su Yue, and her fiancé, Xu Huaiting, eventually dying of illness and despair after being betrayed and discarded by her family. Upon waking, Su Li discovers she has inherited the original’s chance at rebirth. She immediately confronts Su Yue and Xu Huaiting, who are caught in an intimate encounter, and slaps them both. She demands compensation and the return of a jade pendant left by her biological mother, threatening to report them for hooliganism if they refuse. The Su family, led by her stepmother Zhu Cuifen and grandmother Shen Xinglan, are revealed to be greedy and abusive, having neglected Su Li in favor of Su Yue, who had stolen the family’s fortune and status through deceit.

After securing the jade pendant and money, Su Li proceeds to a blind date arranged with Lu Ye, a battalion commander in the army, whom her family had originally intended for Su Yue. Su Li alters the marriage contract to include her name instead of Su Yue’s. Lu Ye, who had secretly preferred Su Li and disliked the arrangement with Su Yue, is delighted. Their meeting goes well, and they agree to marry. However, Su Li discovers a hidden dimension in her space after her blood touches the jade pendant. This mystical realm contains a healing spring that transforms her appearance and health, turning her from a sun-darkened farm girl into a stunningly beautiful woman, as well as an electronic mall where she can purchase modern goods at low prices using deposited currency.

While Su Li and Lu Ye’s relationship blossoms, the Su family plots against her. Zhu Cuifen and Shen Xinglan collude with the He family, a wealthy and formerly bandit lineage in the county, to sell Su Li to their elderly patriarch as a “lucky bride” to ward off bad luck, in exchange for a large sum of money. They plan to use Su Li’s household registration to facilitate the sale. Su Li overhears their scheme and decides to act. With Lu Ye’s help, she steals her own household registration book and transfers it to her own name in a different village, effectively removing herself from her family’s control. Lu Ye’s family arrives to formally propose, offering a substantial bride price and gifts, publicly securing Su Li’s engagement and thwarting the Su family’s initial plans.

The conflict escalates when the He family, having discovered the deception, attempts to force Su Li’s cousin, Su Ying, into the marriage instead. Su Ying’s mother, Cheng Sanmei, injures herself in protest. The Su family, desperate to avoid scandal and debt, considers sacrificing Su Ying. Lu Ye intervenes, revealing that Su Li’s registration has been moved and that interfering with a military marriage is a serious offense. He protects Su Li from her abusive relatives, asserting his authority and commitment to her. Su Li also discovers that she is not the biological daughter of the Su family, a fact hidden by her grandparents and father to maintain their social standing and control over her labor. The story follows Su Li as she navigates these familial betrayals, builds her future with Lu Ye, and utilizes her mystical space to improve her circumstances while seeking justice for the wrongs done to her.
