Story starts off a little dark so if you aren't quite the type to enjoy that type of stuff I recommend you brace yourself before reading. The grammar is good, but my one major criticism to the author is to space out the paragraphs. No one likes to read giant lumps of text over and over again.

Bowing even lower, in both a show of deep respect and to hide his triumphant smirk, Nie Li spoke. "I thank Patriarch Nie Hai for his generosity. I will make sure to return it one-hundred-fold in the future as soon as I can!" He declared before making his actual request. "If it's not too much trouble, I would like for my existence and that of Yu'er's to be kept a secret… at least in regards to our actual cultivation potential and talent!"

"Work for me." She said confidently, she didn't care much for the man himself but what she did find interesting were his movements; if she could see such a scene every day how great would that be? Her house was big enough to require a cleaner anyway, if she could hire one from the company it would save her the trouble of having to call up and hire from a cleaning company herself.

Listen. I started The Fire We Feed thinking, “Oh, just one chapter before bed.” ALWAYS THE BIGGEST LIE OF MY LIFE. Next thing I know, it’s 4AM, I’m emotionally compromised, and I want to both fight and kiss half the cast.Taryn? Certified badass. She could stab me and I’d say thank you. She’s grumpy, traumatized, and refuses to acknowledge feelings unless they’re violent. I respect her deeply.Lucien? I HATE THAT I LOVE HIM. This smug, flirty, insufferable vampire knows exactly what he’s doing and I’m FALLING FOR IT. Every time he calls her “Warrior” in that cocky little voice, I LOSE MY MIND. And the way he worships her?? Sir, get a grip. (No, actually, never stop.)And Kah’el?? Sir, why do you have the emotional depth of an ocean but refuse to admit it?? The way he looks at her, the way he lingers just enough for me to suffer. And don’t even get me started on the tension between him and Lucien. Is this a love triangle? Is this something else entirely?? I DON’T KNOW AND I’M FERAL ABOUT IT.The plot? Absolutely unhinged in the best way. One minute they’re running for their lives, the next minute someone’s getting pinned against a wall, then they are having a quiet dinner and I’M JUST TRYING TO BREATHE. The tension is out of control, the banter is lethal, and the vampire bites and smut?? SPICY.Final thoughts: This book has RUINED me. I will never emotionally recover. If you love fantasy, sizzling slow burn romance, and characters who make the WORST (best) decisions, READ THIS. But beware: once you start, you’re not getting out.9/10, will cry and reread. ??
