You've always been so dedicated, so I thought this day off would be a treat. But it seems like I didn't consult you first, Ariel. You went behind my back." He walks past me, heading out of the closet, and adds, "How can we genuinely celebrate when there's no love left between us? This pretense has become exhausting, and so have I. Here's what I want you to do... sign this," he says, pulling out a white A4 envelope from his bag and placing it on the table in our room. "Let's just finish this and move on." I feel a wave of shock and heartache wash over me as he dons his sunglasses and exits. I'm left standing there, struggling to comprehend the sudden turn of events. The envelope, adorned with the familiar law firm's name, catches my gaze, amplifying my confusion and pain.
