A boy called Alex gets powers from a shard of a primevel demon lord called Nightstalker. Trying to cope with the mental attacks of Nightstalker trying to take him over, and with a friend of his that turned and gave into darkness. He is hunted by people who wield the power of light called the "Messengers of Light"; and the demented, cruel, and mutated creature that used to be his friend. He must learn to use his powers, and survive as well as ignore the darkness which is growing in his mind.
