As much as I am glued to the story, I can't I ignore the emotional abuse and humiliation she is going through.  It will be unfair for her to end up with Alex. Can't handle Alex abuse anymore.

Good story, Spoiler warnings:  Does not have the usual happy ending others in this genre have. Reflects how messy real life is. Pace is good. Not overly drawn out. Also: Author: the song “Empty Crown” by YAS seems to fit chapters 37-39 well. I am not affiliated with artist; just like music/books
