Jay had not had have a good life. Although nothing tragic, dramatic or life-shattering had ever happened to him, depression took its toll. It were the little things that build up -- a look there, a laugh here -- everything the outside world had to offer turned into negatives. He had always lived inside his head, in his own stories and fantasies, and most importantly, in his dreams. There, when the night overtook the conscious mind, could he feel loved, truly accepted and cared for. He had nothing else left but the image of Vera, and strong as it might have been, it was starting to not be enough to sustain his will to live.
The decision had been made and Jay found himself atop his apartment complex, looking down at where he would soon end up. "This was the day," and, "now was the moment." Never even in his most delusional of dreams did he actually think that he would end up in a fantasy world with magic and elves and everything he wished for. Everything.
