As my sword pierced through the base of his neck, the silvery tip sizzled against his flesh. His icy blue eyes widened with shock, realization dawning upon him. He swallowed hard, fear shaking his head.
"I repent," he whimpered, betraying his cowardice. "Let me make amends. Spare me, allow me to face the Council's judgment."
"You won't find mercy here, Sin," I said, watching blood flow freely from his bare chest. "Your fate lies in the Goddess's hands."
His expression shifted to anger, revealing his hidden agenda. "Mark my words," I growled, "I'll confront you in the Palace of the Goddess. If she banishes me, we'll meet at the banks of the River Styx. In Purgatory, I'll relentlessly pursue your death until the Ferryman arrives. And even in the depths of the Underworld, if Hades permits, I'll hunt you without end."
"You've underestimated me," he choked out.
"Everyone does," I whispered, applying full force to the sword's grip.
I thought this was a great book. It was interesting to read the perspectives of other characters, allowing us to see what they knew and when. My only complaint is a seemingly awkward ending. Does anyone know if the author is ok?
