Ji Xiaoyue, a modern woman, transmigrates into the body of a tragic cannon fodder character in an ancient rebirth novel. In the original story, she was the biological daughter of the wealthy Ji family, returned from the countryside only to have her college admission spot stolen by Ji Qingqing, the fake daughter raised in luxury. Humiliated and beaten into madness by her ungrateful parents, Ji Xiaoyue ultimately died a broken woman while Ji Qingqing enjoyed her fiancé and privileged life. Upon waking in the midst of a scandal where Ji Qingqing is caught in bed with Sun Jianbin, Ji Xiaoyue’s fiancé, she decides to rewrite her fate. Instead of playing the victim as in the original plot, she dramatically exposes the affair by rallying the neighborhood aunts, turning the tables on her enemies and forcing the Ji family to confront their hypocrisy.

The confrontation leads to a complete breakdown of Ji Xiaoyue’s relationship with her biological parents, Ji Dahai and Zhang Pingping. They blame her for the scandal rather than acknowledging Ji Qingqing’s infidelity, and Ji Dahai attempts to physically assault her. Ji Xiaoyue firmly rejects their authority, declaring that the slap settles their debt and that she owes them nothing for raising her. She leaves the Ji family compound, severing all ties, and returns to her maternal uncle’s home in Anhe Village. There, she finds her kind but weak uncle, Sun Gensheng, and aunt, Wang Guihua, being oppressed by their mother, Old Lady Sun, and her favored son, Sun Erqiang. Ji Xiaoyue uses her knowledge of the village’s secrets to blackmail Old Lady Sun into allowing her uncle’s family to split from the main household, securing them a dilapidated house of their own.

While establishing her new life, Ji Xiaoyue encounters Fu Liye, a military officer who becomes a significant ally. Mistaken for a human trafficker at a train station due to a frame-up by a criminal, she is rescued by Fu Liye after he recognizes her innocence. Recognizing his future importance in the novel’s plot, Ji Xiaoyue cultivates a relationship with him, securing his contact information and his goodwill. Back in the village, she intervenes in her cousin Sun Dahua’s marriage. Dahua has been married to Li Dahai for years but was abandoned when he returned from the army with an adopted child, revealing he had secretly remarried in the city. Ji Xiaoyue devises a plan to expose the Li family’s deception, using village rumors and direct confrontation to force the truth into the open, thereby protecting her cousin from further exploitation.

Ji Xiaoyue also turns her attention to economic independence. She utilizes recipes from her past life to create popular cold dishes, such as braised pork head and pig offal, which she sells to local restaurants. Her efforts are bolstered by her relationship with five elderly intellectuals living in a cowshed, whom she had helped during her childhood. These men, who are actually high-ranking officials awaiting rehabilitation, provide her with connections and encouragement. As she builds her business and supports her family, Ji Xiaoyue plots her revenge against the Ji family. She encounters Ji Qingqing again in a cloth shop, where she publicly humiliates the fake daughter for her scandalous reputation. The narrative follows Ji Xiaoyue’s strategic moves to reclaim her college spot, dismantle the corrupt Ji family’s influence, and build a prosperous future for herself and her chosen family, all while navigating the complex social dynamics of the era.

Disappointing read for this novel. It appears to be based loosely around another novel that I recall, something about 7 sisters or the like, no matter. Overall from the 15 free chapters (creators note in chapter 1 said 40 odd free) I found this dull, uninspiring and so typically cliche for this genre. Usual start is a struggling MC, down and out, needing cash fast to save ill relative, is miraculously saved by a female lead who reveals his family as their benefactor years ago. Discovers there are 3 other sisters who he now gets to live with and is to marry one by orders of their mother. From this point it is just a failing travesty. The MC is ineffective and quite righteous, but fails hard to be engaging, I could find nothing to remotely connect with to feel any particular emotion. The sisters are, fro what I have seen, rather manipulative, each not wanting to become a bride and don’t hesitate to throw other girls under the bus to gain his interest.Again, i cannot recommend this as nothing more than a sad attempt to gather readers giving nothing engaging back. Another criticism I have is the lack of reader tags to help identify various elements to enable readers to make a informed choice AND the premature chapter locks in place. Locking anything, before say 40 chapters, does not allow enough story to be assimilated and given a fair chance to decide whether it is suitable. 16 chapters is barely a footnote in a novel.

This is not the type of book I would generally be reading. Nonetheless, this started out really well, and the current amount of chapters is not sufficient to leave a proper review. The grammar requires correction at parts. Good luck!

I didn't talk after that. I could tell Carter was obviously feeling stressed with Carla being immobile and I didn't want to break his chain by wording something wrong.
