Lin Banxia, a top-tier scientific researcher from a future era plagued by a zombie apocalypse, dies from overwork after making a breakthrough in vaccine development. She transmigrates into the body of an eighteen-year-old girl in August 1966 Chengdu, waking up in a hospital bed to find her mother, Liu Meiyun, weeping beside her. The original owner of the body had fainted upon hearing that her husband, Qin Mo, a researcher at a Beijing institute, had fallen into a vegetative state after collapsing from exhaustion. Lin Banxia, initially disoriented and concerned about her unfinished research, quickly adapts to her new reality. She discovers that the body she now inhabits has undergone physical enhancements similar to those she developed in her previous life, granting her superhuman strength and endurance. Despite her mother's desperate pleas to divorce Qin Mo and start a new life, Lin Banxia decides to travel to the capital to care for her comatose husband, driven by a sense of duty to the original owner's lingering emotional attachment and her own scientific curiosity.
Upon arriving at the Qin family research institute compound in Beijing, Lin Banxia is greeted by the formidable Qin family, led by the founding general Qin Jianguo. To prove her capability and secure the right to care for Qin Mo, she displays her enhanced strength by lifting a heavy sofa with one hand. The Qin family, impressed and relieved, allows her to take Qin Mo to their private residence. Lin Banxia begins a rigorous treatment regimen involving traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and physical stimulation. During this process, she discovers that Qin Mo is conscious and can hear her, though he cannot move. Her unconventional methods, including undressing him for medical examination and attempting to kiss him to stimulate his nervous system, cause Qin Mo significant internal turmoil, oscillating between embarrassment and affection.
Parallel to the domestic storyline, a subplot involving espionage unfolds. Lin Banxia constructs a radio from scrap parts, which inadvertently records a Morse code transmission from a spy. Although she initially attempts to delete the recording, mistaking the code for noise, her bodyguard Luo Gang recognizes the signal and alerts the Qin family. General Qin Jianguo and his associate Luo Chenghai investigate, leading to the capture of a suspicious man named Feng Dachun, who reveals he was sent by Director Guo Huairen of the Beijing Research Institute. The narrative also introduces Lin Chuqiu, Lin Banxia's cousin, who is revealed to be manipulative and hostile. Lin Chuqiu had previously pressured Liu Meiyun into rushing the marriage and is now sending letters from Chengdu detailing a fabricated romance with a high school classmate, attempting to guilt Lin Banxia. Lin Banxia dismisses these provocations, focusing instead on her husband's recovery and uncovering the conspiracy surrounding the spy signal. The story establishes a dual trajectory: Lin Banxia's efforts to revive Qin Mo using her advanced knowledge, and the growing entanglement of the Qin family in a national security crisis that she is uniquely positioned to help resolve.
